Could Boehner Lose the Speakership?
Source: CBS Iowa 2
Next week, lawmakers will return to Congress. Often a formality, the new session will have to elect a new Speaker of the House. But a growing number of conservative Republicans are mounting a challenge to Speaker Boehner. In a radio interview last week, North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones said he's meeting with more than a dozen Republicans considering to submit another name for the leadership. Though pundits see the challenge as a long shot, the hope of Boehner's opponents is to deny him a majority of votes so that he's forced to drop out of the race. Most believed to be challenging the Speaker are doing so behind closed doors, but in a post on Twitter, Rep. Tom Massie of Kentucky hinted he would oppose Boehner, by posting a sign that reads "Next Speaker Please." Far-right factions of the Republican party are upset with Boehner over his unwillingness to challenge President Obama's executive orders on immigration policy before the end of the year. Most in the Republican party still support the Speaker. An aide for Speaker Boehner says there will be no punishment for members of his party who choose to vote against him.

no one wants to come forward as a candidate without knowing that they will win

(27,315 posts)I'd actually like to see that. It would be hilarious, but as long as they do not have a credible candidate ready to take the challenge of taming the menagerie, this is going nowhere, just like in 2013.

The better tear-jerker might be Louis Gohmert.

(129,081 posts)some were considering nominating Allen West to unseat Boner after he lost his seat. But remember that with this group, cutthroat rules the day and she is considered toxic... what, with all the investigations going on with her and whatnot.

(34,661 posts)This will play out about the 15th of next month. Watch for Wall Street legislation which will piss off the Billies. The biggee will be the return of all the Bush Tax Give away's. And the repeal of Sequestration with a huge deficit spending bill disguised as a jobs bill. All this garbage will be used to grease the skids for Jebbie. The spin will be intense to say the least.

(42,714 posts)The only source I've seen for such numbers is Erick Erickson and if you want to treat him as a credible source, you're welcome to do so, although I doubt very many DUers would join you in that regard.
Keep in mind that the Republican caucus already voted after the November elections to back Boehner as speaker. Yes, there has to be another vote, but the likelihood that it would result in Boehner being ousted is miniscule.

(22,000 posts)for someone much crazier and right-wing. Someone reckless enough to put impeachment back on the table. It will give Obama even more cover to get that veto stamp out and slap the shit out of them.
