De Blasio calls funeral protests ‘disrespectful’

Source: Washington Post

A day after police officers at a funeral again turned their backs on New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, the mayor said officers who used the service to stage a protest “showed disrespect” to the mourning families and the people of New York.

“They were disrespectful to the families involved,” de Blasio said Monday. “They were disrespectful to the families who had lost their loved ones. I can’t understand why anyone would do such a thing in the context like that.”

De Blasio’s comments Monday marked his first extended public reaction to the criticism he has received from union leaders and some officers, which extended to demonstrations at the funerals for the police officers who were shot and killed in Brooklyn last month.

He spoke while appearing at a news conference alongside Bill Bratton, the police commissioner, and other police officials, an event aimed at discussing the city’s crime rate, which dropped 4.6 percent in 2014 from a year earlier. De Blasio heaped praise on the department for its efforts in 2014 while simultaneously dismissing “the loudest and most disrespectful voices” he said have dominated the news cycle.

I think the few 100 backstabbers have overplayed their hand. There has been enormous sympathy for the murdered officers and the NYPD for their loss and they turned that good will into ugly politics.

where a question asked would show us just how many support the back turners.

My guess is over half, which should be a message to the rest of us...that we might be in trouble

Def also ran on reining in the cops, but I think inequality was the biggest part of what got him elected.

10. Planes Pulling Another Anti-De Blasio Message Fly Over Hudson River (New Update)

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — An aerial anti-Bill de Blasio campaign that began days after two NYPD officers were gunned down in Brooklyn is still flying high.

On Dec. 26, six days after Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were shot to death in their patrol car in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, a plane flying a banner that read, “De Blasio. Our Backs Have Turned To You,” was seen flying above the Hudson.

<snip>

Today, new banners could be seen in the sky. They read, “De Blasio. You Failed All NY’ers. It’s Time. Resign.” And, “NY Support NYPD. Rest In Peace Dets Liu & Ramos.”

The new banners are meant “to support the brave men and women protecting our streets while protesting the glaring, dangerous disregard that Mayor de Blasio demonstrates toward the realities of public safety,” the group told the Daily News.

- Actually, most NYers will have about the same likelihood of seeing the above airplane messages, as they are likely to see a tiny-ass airplane's message flying above the skyscrapers. Way to waste those unions dues!
