WASHINGTON, D.C. - A pair of Northeast Ohio Democrats joined representatives of labor, environmental and human rights groups on Thursday to oppose expediting congressional consideration of the upcoming Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.
Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Toledo and Rep. Tim Ryan of the Niles area oppose allowing Congress to consider the agreement between the United States and 11 other countries on a "fast track" basis.
Kaptur said the U.S. trade deficit has escalated by $9.5 trillion since the North American Free Trade Agreement was implemented in 1994, and that bad trade deals have cost 5 million jobs in Ohio alone.
"These issues of trade have decimated the middle class in America," said Ryan, who stood with Kaptur and other Congress members beneath a banner that said "United for American Jobs; United Against Fast Track."

Snip~
"AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said his organization will fight to kill fast track because it "allows politicians to speak out of one side of their mouths to voters and the other side to special interests."
"America needs a new trade model that will benefit all Americans, not just Wall Street executives," said Trumka."

Been railing about it for a while. What it needs is public exposure and debate. Maybe people will awaken then.
