New hostage situation reported in Paris grocery

Source: RTE

The man suspected of killing a policewoman in a southern suburb of Paris yesterday is reported to have taken a hostage at a kosher grocery in eastern Paris.

Police say one person has been injured in a shootout at the store.

The suspect was a member of the same jihadist group as the two suspects in the attack on Charlie Hebdo, a police source said.

The man knew Cherif and Said Kouachi, the brothers suspected of killing ten journalists and two police officers on Wednesday.

i've had it on all morning getting ready for work. they're saying that a hostage has been taken and 1 person is wounded. they're speculating that it's the same person who killed the policewoman in paris.

i guess they win, if their end game is terror.

which doesn't sound like a copycat.

Sounds like a coordinated attack.

A group could shut down a whole country with enough strategic coordinated attacks, esp. if the group members do not care if they die or get caught. easily.

But it seems to me this is another one with the same motivations and desires doing something similar.

I don't think there is evidence of communication from a higher group leader or coherent structure.

At this time.

France: Shooting, hostage-taking in eastern Paris

PARIS (AP) -- France's anti-terrorism prosecutor says a shooting and hostage-taking attack is underway at a kosher market on the eastern edge of Paris. A police official said there are multiple hostages and wounded at the scene.

The French president ordered the country's top security official to the scene, an official in the presidency told The Associated Press. The police official declined to be named when discussing the unfolding situation.

The events near Paris' Porte de Vincennes took place as two suspects in France's deadliest terror attack in decades were cornered near Charles de Gaulle airport.

Hostage-taker at Paris market linked to newspaper attack

PARIS (AP) -- A police official says the man who has taken at least five people hostage in a kosher market on the eastern edges of Paris Friday appears linked to the newsroom massacre earlier this week that left 12 people dead.

The official, who was not authorized to speak about the situation, said the man opened fire in the kosher market, near Paris' Porte de Vincennes, and declared "you know who I am."

Paris police released a photo of Amedy Coulibaly as a suspect in the killing Thursday of a policewoman, and the official named him as the man holed up in the market. He said the man is armed with an automatic rifle and some hostages have been gravely wounded.

He said a second suspect, a woman named Hayet Boumddiene, is the gunman's accomplice.

Amedy Coulibaly is 33 and from Juvisy-sur-Orge in Ile-de-France. According to Le Monde, Coulibaly and Cherif Kouachi were two of the most committed followers of convicted terrorist Djamel Beghal . Telephone conversations reveal that the pair visited Beghal’s home in Murat in the south of France. Hayat Boumeddiene, 26, has been Coulibaly’s partner since 2010 and lived in his home while he was serving a prison sentence, Le Monde said.
