‘American Sniper’ Praised By Michael Moore; Calls Bradley Cooper’s Performance “One Of The Best..."

Source: Yahoo News

UPDATE, 12:26 PM: A day after taking to Twitter to lambast snipers as “cowards,” the Academy Award winning director is now praising American Sniper the movie – to some extent.

“Awesome performance from Bradley Cooper,” said Michael Moore on his Facebook page late last night about the Clint Eastwood directed Oscar nominated film. “One of the best of the year. Great editing. Costumes, hair, makeup superb!” Still, Moore does have a few critiques of the pic.

“Oh… and too bad Clint gets Vietnam and Iraq confused in his storytelling. And that he has his characters calling Iraqis ‘savages’ throughout the film,” he adds in his posting. “But there is also anti-war sentiment expressed in the movie. And there’s a touching ending as the main character is remembered after being gunned down by a fellow American vet with PTSD who was given a gun at a gun range back home in Texas — and then used it to kill the man who called himself the ‘America Sniper’.”

The Fahrenheit 9/11 helmer also says that American Sniper has the “best movie trailer and TV ads of the year.”

I am also arguing that the film is arguably anti-war (spoiler alert) : http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=6106899

And it is not anti-war to glorify a sniper........movie unseen.

Moore is yanking a few chains, they are already rattling.

Moore ended his post with:

"I was taught the story of Jesse James and that the scoundrel wasn’t James (who was a criminal who killed people) but rather the sniper who shot him in the back. I think most Americans don’t think snipers are heroes.”

“Hopefully not on this weekend when we remember that man in Memphis, Tennessee, who was killed by a sniper’s bullet,”says Moore in reference to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the national holiday today celebrating him."

Never seen a day of combat in his life, but right out there calling a soldier a coward because of the job he did.

Moore is acting like a leftwing version of Ann Coulter. He should be ashamed.

Those that torture or glorify in killing in particular. When there is a true need to kill then do it the best you can, but it has been many decades since there was any real need to kill. And especially torture. There is NEVER a need to torture.. NEVER

Just last year my cousin, who was a gunner on a Marine chopper in Vietnam, cried when talking about his war experience. 50 years later and he still has a hard time talking about it. He never brings it up on his own but will talk about it when asked. In 50 years I have only talked to him about it twice. I will not bring it up again.

He was gunner on airplane in Japan during WWII.

I never knew he watched his friend and fellow gunner die before his eyes, and other stories until right before he died. He told my son n law a new Air Force officer at the time and I was in the room.

Especially those that actually were involved in the fighting. It is usually the REMFs that love to tell their war stories..

Moore's initial tweet fell into the usual trap of some of the left: demonizing soldiers
He could just sit out this debate--but his Coulter-like need for attention won't let him

He was demonizing one aspect or job that solders do, sniping.

I had Grand Uncles who participated in in island hopping in the Pacific during WWII. The way they regurgitated the word "sniper" left little doubt how much respect that job commanded. Roughly equal to flaming shit.
It's all a matter of prospective.

"The dirty little cowards who shot Mr. Howard and laid poor Jesse in his grave" were certainly back shooters but not snipers. It looks tome like Moore does not know what a sniper is. And he doesn't know anything about Jesse James either.

"I had a big question when we went into Afghanistan," he also said, explaining, "Did anybody ever study the history of Afghanistan, not only with the British, but the Russians? There was a Russian general named Vivikov, who was the commander for 10 years there, and I thought, 'Did anybody ever...?' So I called a friend of mine who was over there for many years and knew this general. I said, 'Did anybody from our government ever go and research it like you would a movie? You know, can we film here?' And they said, 'No, they never did.' Vivikov is deceased now, but at the time I thought, 'Wouldn't a logical person go out and do a little research and say, 'How would you do this, Mr. Vivikov? What did you do wrong? And what are we doing wrong? Give us at least a hint.'
