Bill aims to drug test some Montana welfare applicants

HELENA Certain welfare applicants would be required to take drug tests under proposed legislation in Montana.
Rep. Randy Pinocci introduced the bill in the House Human Services Committee on Monday. The Sun River Republican said thousands of Montanans asked him to sponsor the bill and that the goal is to protect children.
"It's not all applicants," he said. "It's for those showing past drug abuse or dependency."
House Bill 200 would require people who apply for assistance under the state's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program to fill out a questionnaire about drug abuse. The applicant would then have to take a drug test if staff members determine a problem could be likely.

2. The goal is NOT to protect children.
1) It's Montana, so maybe 2,000 Tea Party Patriots asked for it? That's thousands.
2) Why do you want to subsidize meth cooking? Even if it keeps one injection of marijuana off the streets, it will be worth it! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

(7,917 posts)Undue burden placed on the applicants along with assumption of guilt prior to evidence were among the reasons cited.
Its one more version of bash the poor and needy. It is a calculated slander to undermine the whole social support structure. In Florida they were going to drug test anyone who applied for unemployment.
Yet another expression of "Christian" charity and love for one's fellow man. I find it stunning to see just how many people think this is a good policy and how many so called "Christians" would condemn their next door neighbors in a heartbeat. Since they are sheeple I suppose their fear and hatred should not surprise me, after all they are only following orders.
