Compared with gas imports, wind and solar power projects, for which costs have fallen significantly in recent years, are currently priced competitively with capital and operating costs both expected to fall further, Elsobki said.

As announced by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi Monday, Egypt would seek to install 4,300 MW of wind and solar power generation capacity in the 2015-17 period, Elsobki said.
That would consist of 300 MW of small solar projects, ranging in size from rooftop to 20 MW photovoltaic arrays; 2,000 MW of medium to large solar voltaic projects in the 20-50 MW size range; and 2,000 MW of medium to large wind projects, also ranging from 20-50 MW in size.
