US schools to have non-white majority (BBC)
By Sean Coughlan BBC
News education correspondent
White pupils in state schools in the United States are set to be in the minority for the first time when schools return for the new term.
According to official forecasts, enrolments for the 2014-15 school year will mark the threshold when ethnic minorities become the majority.
This demographic shift has been driven by rising numbers of Hispanic pupils.
Figures are gathered by the US Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics.

(25,704 posts)White is the default ethnicity in America. With increased interracial marriage or child bearing most mixed race people choose the white identity. For example most mixed race Asian and white kids put down white as their identity when applying to college because of the anti-asian bias at the top schools. There has been talk of "passing" in t house e african american community for hundreds of years - Think The Human Stain.
