"Kennedy: I want to splinter the CIA in a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2920386

I was looking for something else when this link popped up. I'm reposting this because it was originally posted here, because of President Kennedy's quote, and this dialog from his former speech writer.

I think we'd have a much better country to live in today. It makes me almost sick when I think of what could have been if JFK and RFK hadn't been assassinated. It makes me mad as hell, too.

Wasn't GHW Bush in charge of the CIA at that time? With leaders so corrupt, no wonder it was defended by the gop.

He went to another town in Texas -- and then phoned the FBI on some stupid pretext, just so it would be on the record that he wasn't in Dallas. Then, Bar wrote letters to the kids, so they would be postmarked from the other city -- even though both she and George would be home with the kids long before the letters arrived.

They were clearly establishing an alibi -- something the Bushes are expert at.

The list of other people who just "happened" to be in Dallas that day is remarkable.

Bush is a spook through and through -- from his college days on. His oil company was just a front that allowed him to travel around the world.

I know he was in the CIA later on. But in 1963, which is the year in which Kennedy was assassinated, he was in private business, not government.

He entered government in 1964 when he ran for congress. He didn't get into the CIA until the 70s, a decade or so after Kennedy.

Bush may not have entered "government" until 1964, but he "got into" the CIA at its inception and had been involved in "intelligence" activities since his college days. His "private business" was just a cover -- as it was for most spooks in those days. They were "businessmen" who would travel all over the world.

I thought the purpose of an intelligence agency would be to protect democracy. Obviously the CIA has way overstepped their original charter.

Truman almost immediately regretted signing off on it. He thought it was just going to be a fact-gathering outfit that would help the president and Congress make decisions.

As soon as it was founded, the Dulles Brothers -- Allen and John Foster -- turned it into what Truman called "a cloak and dagger operation." Almost immediately it began meddling in foreign affairs -- assassinating people and overthrowing governments.
