"GOP candidates want you to be terrified" (Chicago Tribune)

"These assertions (of impending doom) will undoubtedly play well with voters who make up the Republican base. They seem to love being afraid, perhaps because Fox News is like a fright sprinkler: TYRANNY! EBOLA! (chicka-chicka-chicka-chick) BLACK PANTHERS! SHARIAH LAW! (chicka-chicka-chicka-chick) DEATH PANELS! VOTER FRAUD!

...

The key, I think, is for Republicans to focus some of their precious voter-scaring time on subjects tailored to terrify a younger demographic. I'm talking about things like: slow wireless connections; smartphones with less than a 20-percent charge; and gluten."

You must never-ever agree with something the Democrats want because if you do, then a Teabagger escapes from the asylum and challenges you in primary for not being conservative enough.

profit losses for big business. Ginning up the issues such as gay marriage, women's rights and the regular wedge issues pushed by Republicans are tools to control the people who aren't well informed.

People who vote Republican tend to be more fearful than people who vote for Democrats. IIRC (too lazy to look it up) they've studied their brains and found that the "fear centers" of Republican voters are more active than in Democratic voters. So the GOP appeals to those fears and Faux News is only too happy to shovel fear propaganda.

Another example of emotion being linked to some perceptual experience is fear conditioning. In this example the sensory experience is auditory rather than visual as in the emotion of faces. Much of what we know about the amygdala and its role in emotional learning and memory comes from fear conditioning, mostly but not exclusively conducted with animals. This is an example of classical conditioning or Pavlovian conditioning. In the classic experiments conducted by Pavlov just after the turn of the century, a neutral stimulus—a bell—was sounded and after a brief interval food powder—the unconditioned stimulus—was placed in the dog’s mouth. After a few such pairings the dog would salivate to the sound of the bell. The crucial aspect of classical conditioning is that it is a pairing between two stimuli. No response is required to get the reward. In fear conditioning, an organism hears a noise or sees a visual stimulus. A few seconds, later it receives a mild shock. The reactions involve freezing, elevated blood pressure and heart rate, and it gets twitchy—startles easily.

Actually, fearmongering is all they have. They campaign on jobs/economy, then pass nothing but anti-rights social legislation. So much for Boehber's & McConnell's publicuzed promise after 2014 elections to "follow the will of the people." Some are wising up, so they continue the long-used fear and how only they have the balls to protect us.
