by Robert Reich
'Millions of people who call themselves conservatives or Republicans or Tea Partiers are as fed up with crony-capitalism as you are. They know as well as you do that the political system is more rigged than ever in favor of big corporations and Wall Street. They hate corporate welfare as much as you do whether in the form of special tax loopholes for hedge-fund managers, bailouts of big banks, foreign tax havens for the rich and large corporations, or subsidies for Big Pharma, Big Energy, and Big Ag. Theyre as angry as you are that the fat cats are doing better than ever by squeezing worker pay and sending jobs abroad. Theyre as angry as you that their limited dollars are being redistributed upward to giant corporations whose increasing market power enables them to raise prices. Just like you, they reject the Trans Pacific Partnership and other deals that have bestowed handsome rewards on the powerful and privileged but harmed average workers. Just like you, they want big money out of politics. And when the next crash comes, they'll be screwed just as you will be -- while none of the bank executives or corporate lobbyists or government officials responsible will ever be held accountable.
If we joined together, we could easily wrest our democracy and our economy back from the moneyed interests that now control both. This is why the moneyed interests continue to do everything in their power to keep us divided over issues like immigration, gay marriage, abortion, guns, religion, and race. Not that these issues are unimportant -- of course they are. But unless or until we get our democracy and economy back, we can't even begin to address them constructively. Which is why the moneyed interests want to fuel these fights. They call us the Left and they call them the Right, and the their media outlets bemoan the erosion of the middle.
Its even hard to find a means to communicate. Were in separate bubbles -- we vote in different parties, watch and listen to different broadcast and print and social media (Im assuming few of you reading this call yourselves Tea Partiers or conservative Republicans), we live in separate communities, just about all our friends are in one camp or the other.
So how do we reach each other to make this movement a reality?'

(23,867 posts)It donned on me while watching a Sanders talk, and the audience was so diverse. And even my experience with the old white haired lady with her tidy white poodle. We were sitting on benches waiting for the store to open, and I had my bernie shirt on. She said something about how glad she was, and how it was McGovern since she last saw a candidate like Sanders.
So especially if it's the conservatives joining, think of how this would affect division within the entire country. That to me is far bigger than getting a man on the moon. Gil Scott Heron got it. Bernie gets it. I think O'Malley too. This could lead to real things getting done, and people living together in a happier state.
It's too nice outside to be here typing. I'm off to go hang out with my two crow friends. Crow are people too!

On to the Scalia story: http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/2016/02/supreme-court-justice-antonin-scalia-reported-dead.html/

Folks, we are going to get the Supreme Court back.
And, if we elect the right Democrat for president, one with appeal that reaches far across the aisle, and one who can bring the independents under the democratic big tent, we will also get the senate and inroads to the house.
Bernie will have "yuuuge" coattails on which down-ballot candidates can ride.
