Populist anger in presidential races should be a wake up call to big business

Populist uprisings in the Republican and Democratic presidential races are more than a rejection of the political establishment. They are a rejection of the business establishment that essentially controls both parties.

Average Republican voters are flocking to front-runner Donald Trump, the vulgar tycoon and reality TV star who has terrified the GOP establishment.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, is giving establishment candidate Hillary Clinton, the former senator and secretary of state, surprisingly tough competition for the Democratic nomination.

This is no coincidence. Average people may describe the nation’s problems differently and favor different solutions, depending on whether they lean left or right. But the common driver of their frustration and anger it is that they fear the American dream is slipping away.

people and think where else are they going to go? That's why a lot of people are saying that if Bernie doesn't get the nomination, they will vote Trump, so they can blow up both establishment parties in DC. It's just not working for the average person and they figure they don't have much to lose.

And, you can talk about all the liberal social ideas that have gotten passed, but for the most part, it doesn't touch the average person on the street. Abortion? Poor women can't get them anyway. Gay rights? If you can't find a job, what does it matter. Companies will rule the doomed planet. Hillary or Trump? Doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, we are still fucked.
