"Morale Education in the American Army: War for Independence, War of 1812, Civil War" PDF from 1944

https://archive.org/details/MoraleEducationInTheAmericanArmy

A person I know scanned this yesterday. The first and second parts (on the American Revolutionary War and the War on 1812) are largely centered on the efforts of George Washington and Andrew Jackson to raise the morale of their troops and aren't as interesting as the third (and largest) part of the pamphlet, which deals with the Union side in the Civil War.

That being said, it is a concise account of how the morale of troops was kept up in the three different conflicts covered in the book by educating the soldiery on what they were actually fighting for.

is the brilliant work being done on Moral Injury - much of it by the VA.

If it catches on, we might be able to say "goodbye" to war.

BTW, I think I have a case (from Vietnam)
