Republicans can’t pretend not to know what fuels the Trump campaign
IN A major speech Thursday, Hillary Clinton linked Donald Trump to bigoted elements on the fringe of American politics. But she got it wrong when she said, Trump is reinforcing harmful stereotypes and offering a dog whistle to his most hateful supporters.
Its not a dog whistle if everyone can hear the bigotry.
Republicans supporting Mr. Trump, explicitly or tacitly, cannot reasonably claim that they do not know who he is and what he has been doing.

(31,518 posts)In a conversation with a co-worker, who is a deacon in his church, he stated that when he was growing up they always called black people n*****s, but there wasn't anything racist about it. What?!?!? I couldn't believe what I was hearing and he couldn't believe that I considered it a racist comment.
It's just so ingrained in them that they don't recognize it. It's not a hatred of AA's or fear. They just believe as a matter of fact that whites are superior to blacks in intellect, morals, industry, you name it. They learned this as children and it has become part of their core beliefs.
To his credit, he told me recently that he can't believe that Trump got the nomination and that he can't vote for him. Of course, he won't vote for Hillary either, but it's at least one less vote for Trump.
