BROKEN: Trust in mass media plummets to new low

On September 10, my colleague Peter Daou sounded the death knell for mainstream political reporting with a piece titled R.I.P. Political Journalism (1440-2016).
Four days later we get confirmation from Gallup: "Americans' trust and confidence in the mass media 'to report the news fully, accurately and fairly' has dropped to its lowest level in Gallup polling history, with 32% saying they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media."

They’re not even trying to hide how it works. We spent all week talking about it; we hired a pollster; the pollster concluded that the frame we’ve spent all week pushing has registered with THE PUBLIC.
It’s become so routine that they don’t even have any compunction about it.
This is neither neutral nor objective. The media make value judgments about which stories to cover and how to cover them all the time.
