Mike Pence was not interested in defending Donald Trump
The GOPs revisionist history of the Trump candidacy began tonight.

By all accounts, Mike Pence is running for the vice presidency on a ticket with Donald Trump. Viewers might be forgiven if they went to bed with the wrong impression after tuning into Pences one and only appearance on a debate stage Tuesday night, though.
Time and again, Pence was asked to defend some of his running mates most controversial statements and positions. And with virtually every opportunity, he instead deflected, changed the subject, or outright denied that Trumps words were Trumps words.
Take this exchange on nuclear weapons. This past spring, Trump raised eyebrows when he suggested it was in Americas interest if more countrieslike Saudi Arabia, Japan, and South Koreabegan developing nuclear weapons. He also suggested that as president, he wouldnt be opposed to using nuclear weapons in Europe.
To national security experts at the time and still today, Trumps comments were as alarming as they were outlandish. And on Tuesday, Mike Pence sounded incredulous when Trumps own words were essentially repeated back to him verbatim by his Democratic counterpart Tim Kaine.
He never said that, Pence insisted. Naturally, there is ample video evidence of Trump saying it, repeatedly.
Pence also couldnt believe a presidential nominee would forget the fact that Russia invaded Crimea just two years ago. Trump
didnt know that Russia had invaded Crimea, Kaine reminded viewers.
He knew that, was Pences chortled retort..................................**MANY MORE EXAMPLES GIVEN...............................**********

Big takeaway tonight: @GovPenceIN thinks @realDonaldTrump can't win. That's why he didn't defend Trump, but instead promoted himself for 2020

(1,735 posts)I'll bet Trump is furious that Pence seemed to be helping himself rather than a Trump presidency. First thing commentators said afterward was he looked like the 2020 candidate. Look out Gov., your next on his crazy nickname list.

(16 posts)Trump is indefensible. The most abhorrent Republican we've ever seen before is more tolerable than Donald Trump, in my opinion. Mike Pence's future is at stake if he stands TOO close to the fire. I almost feel sorry for him.
