GOP's propaganda guide for Conservative Contumelists instructs to blame Obama for high gas prices
... Every Friday the GOP sends "talking points" sheet to Conservative commentators, to coordinate the Propaganda campaign so radio and Fox TV minions can echo the same points (and phrases) as their Brown shirted Corporate Lobbyist leaders in Congress. The NYT recently reported that the "Pundit Prep" document has recently directed conservative commentators to chant together that spiking gas prices are Obama's fault (forget the ARAB Spring and Iran's program to build a nuclear bomb(s)).
The GOP: the master practitioner of "the Big Lie".

In a closed-door meeting last week, Speaker John A. Boehner instructed fellow Republicans to embrace the gas-pump anger they find among their constituents when they return to their districts for the Presidents Day recess.

For the presidents economic team, the specter of such increases in oil prices comes on the heels of positive economic news that has lifted Mr. Obamas approval rating, including better-than-expected job growth, a surging stock market and a payroll tax deal that will put more money in the pockets of millions of Americans.
But Mr. Boehners message to his members echoes the aggressive talk coming from the Republican campaign trail, where the men vying for the right to challenge Mr. Obama are increasingly blaming Mr. Obamas administration for rising gas prices. A gallon of gas had dropped to $1.89 when Mr. Obama took office in 2009, in large part because of the fall in oil demand caused by the financial crisis, and has almost doubled since.

And talking points from the Republican National Committee that go out to conservative commentators every Friday often include rising gas prices among the Top Line Messaging for the week. A recent Pundit Prep document cited the national debt, unemployment and the price of gas as the three best ways to define the Obama economy.

Jon Stewart also noted on last night's show, that one FOX News propagandist, actually produced the actual sheet he had recieved from the GOP and actually read verbatim from it!
I'm not seeing much gas pump anger....I think people have resigned themselves that the price is always going to be somewhere near $3. or more.

(6,436 posts)political party coordinating its messaging with willing confederates in the media - a very sinister development.
But perhaps you are just 'playing dumb'. GOP uber alle?

(8,409 posts). . . Democrats didn't blame Bush for the price of gas, but rather took him to task for his lackluster commitment to alternative sources of energy.

(1,138 posts)Why we have to pay a "World Market" price for gas. Looks fishy to me.

(8,409 posts)... because private industry extracts it, refines and distills it, etc. and thus they "own" the product. They are free to sell it to the highest bidder. That's what "free markets" are all about, right? Of course, we could nationalize the energy industry, but then the same folks who are blaming the President for gasoline prices would be screaming bloody murder about "socialism."

(6,436 posts)GOP unlike the Democrats are coordinating their message with their media confederates by telling them what to focus on and even in some cases telling them how to say it. When media messages are scripted by a political party this is the realm of totalitarianism - Party approved/written news.

Bill USA
(6,436 posts)rather obvious job of it.
But I'm always happy when given the opportunity to expose Republican sucker incoherence.
Also, there is nothing to sort out about conservative nut-jobs getting their copy from the GOP. This is one of the tried and true methods of totalitarian governments everywhere. Control, as much as you can get away with, the information reaching the people. The GOP takes to these methods and subterfuges like a duck to water.

(6,506 posts)they are using the techniques of totalitarianism. Another example, of course, is the Bush administration's editing of reports written by scientists, to make them appear to not be diametrically opposed to Republican theology.

(101,385 posts)Just one OP from Feb 7th to Feb 13th - which repeated something the DUer had said months ago:
About those low gas prices when Obama took office
and then, within 48 hours:
Bumpy Ride Ahead: Gas Prices May Soon Hit 4 Dollars a Gallon
4 to 5 bucks for gas coming!?
If gas goes to 5.00 per gallon
MOST of the gas price rising is supply manipulation NOT other factors PERIOD
What to say when Republican friends complain about higher gas prices.
And that's DU - which won't take talking points straight from Fox, but as other media react to Fox (or other planted conservative commentators), it filters through to DU. In the UK, I couldn't work out why there was suddenly so much on DU about rising gas prices. Finally, on Feb 18, someone called it 'bullshit right wing scare tactics', and 'bed-wetting', and things started becoming clearer. They were right, we can now see.
