I dont want Trump to succeed. I want him to fail spectacularly.
By Michael A. CohenBetween now and Jan. 20, when Donald Trump takes the oath of office as Americas 45th president, many Americans will wish for him to be a successful president.
Not me.
I dont want Trump to succeed. I want him to fail spectacularly.
I say this not because I dont accept the outcome of last weeks election or because I dont recognize him as my president. Trump won fair and square and will be the president for at least the next four years.
But make no mistake success for Trump would be a disaster for America. If his campaign promises are to be taken at face value, his success would mean that tens of millions of Americans may lose health care insurance. It would mean a step back on fighting climate change that could have a catastrophic, even apocalyptic effect on the planet. It would mean a shredded social safety net and little federal attention to voting restrictions and structural racism in Americas criminal justice system. It would mean global instability and a weakening of Americans leadership role in the world. It would mean acquiescence to an assertive Russia and a weakening of the international institutions that help to maintain global order. It would mean disastrous trade wars and a domestic agenda that would do more to harm the people who voted for Trump than help them. It would mean mass deportation and a humanitarian catastrophe for millions of undocumented immigrants.

It sucks that it will mean the end of my marriage and civil rights. But maybe, just maybe people will wake the fuck up for future elections.
It will mean the end of mutually beneficial trade policies that actually did favor us. The cost of goods will skyrocket in price, and the average family will find their purchasing power greatly diminished. It will mean the end of many jobs that support these agreements. Many families will suffer for this, and it will destabilize our safety and relations with a number of countries around the world, especially China. But maybe, just maybe people will wake the fuck up for future elections.
The many, MANY millions who rely on the social programs to make ends meet will suffer. But maybe, just maybe people will wake the fuck up for future elections.
Women's rights will be set back, and if they really get their way the health of many women will be put in jeopardy. But maybe, just maybe people will wake the fucu up for future elections.
No, failure will only have a moderate impact on the useful idiots that supported that man. Worse, they'll use us as a scapegoat for his failures, and claim that it would have been better if we weren't so obstructionist. So, I wish that bastard and his henchmen to succeed.. Burn this mother down, and maybe, just maybe we can rebuild it and not make this same mistake again... for at least another generation or 2.

Unfortunately, with a Republican congress, I think I'm going to be extremely disappointed 99% of the time.
