The problem with the Republican platform? There is no Republican platform.

By Catherine Rampell Opinion writer June 5 at 7:23 PM

What’s holding back the Republican agenda?

It’s not the toothless Democrats, despite what you may have heard from President Trump. Five months ago, when Trump moved into the White House, they lost their grip on their last lever of significant Washington power.

Likewise, it’s not Trump’s infernal nocturnal tweets, unhelpful though they may be.

Neither is it the distraction of nonstop news about Trump’s aides’ ties to Russia or the president’s own possible attempts to obstruct justice. Nor is it leaky White House staffers, nor the operatives of the “deep state.”

So what’s actually obstructing the Republican agenda? It’s the fact that there is no Republican agenda.

For years Republicans, including and especially the party’s current standard-bearer, have promised magic bullets for nearly every social, economic and global ill, no matter how complex. But this was not a policy platform; this was a series of bluffs disguised as a policy platform.

..it's that far too many voters PERCEIVE there to be a platform.

Tax Cuts
Strong Defense

There are other peripherals (guns, abortion, etc.) but those two have always been what everyone on both sides seem to see the Republicans as standing for in the face of everything else. Never mind that Tax cuts have been proven to do nothing except harm the economy, and never mind that their defense policies make us less safe. That is what the conventional wisdom is for voters, for the idiots in the media, and unfortunately more than a few Democrats who also choose to internalize that "conventional wisdom".

What we need to do more of is have people point out the ways in which these perceptions are wrong and the data that backs it all up.

Fascism is subversive. Any rational person is horrified by the chaos. Cult followers want more.

.the cult followers will always be there no matter what.

The opposition will always oppose no matter what

It's that middle ground of people who we perceive as rational and intelligent who can also get caught up in these tropes when they are hammered home with almost surgical precision from many different outlets and directions.

And start with the simplest answer. Don't go down their rabbit hole.

We have chaos right now because they are subversive. They want chaos. No amount of logic or.reason will.sway them.
