I find his earlier stuff more compelling. He doesn't develop characters so much as just make commentary. One of the things about early Doonesbury I like is how the commentary is kind of snuck in with the story arcs of the main characters.

That aside, this strip pretty much nails it as far as the anti-"socialist" rage in this country.

I like to help the anti-socialist crowd by pointing out the Big socialist programs we have in the US.

Lets start with the BIGGEST

The US military. BIG socialist program. We should can them all and hire private companies like Blackwater.
The interstate highway system. Think of all the millions of new toll both jobs we could create if we privatized them all?
Come to think of it Public roads and Bridges are a communist idea, I bet they had them in the USSR!
TVA, who needs PUBLIC flood control?
Public education, hey we are making great progress in eliminating that, good job GOP! Less education = more republicans!
Hoover dam, Hoover must have been a commie.
And don't get me started on those old socialist programs like the elimination of Polio and Smallpox. Completely destroyed our iron lung industry.
Vaccination programs are just socialist propaganda, American kids will be more competitive in a global environment if they learn to fight their own infections.
