Alabama's pro-life voters choose between Roy Moore and staying home (C. Smith/al.com)

Roy Moore's character is in the media's crosshairs. With a month to go before the election, the question is whether Alabama's Republican majority believes Moore or those accusing him of illicit sexual conduct. Either way, the Democratic candidate Doug Jones isn't an acceptable alternative for one major reason.

Moore's rock-ribbed supporters will show up and vote for him regardless of any allegations leveled against him. They think Moore was wrongly removed from office twice and that the latest accusations are evidence of liberals and the Washington establishment trying to destroy him.

Then there are voters like me.

I'm not about to defend the conduct alleged against Moore. Attempts to do so by several Republican officials from Alabama have been ghastly. I already had significant reservations about Moore's candidacy. His removals from judicial office strike me as disrespect for the rule of law rather than evidence of strong convictions.

The question is whether I'm going to show up and vote for Moore or not.

Jones is a great candidate in many respects. He's not a polarizing bomb-thrower. He is, by all accounts, a man of impeccable character with a storied legal career.

It's beyond stupid. Make some poor woman carry a child she doesn't want or can't take care of, and yet ensure that this society has no kind of safety to take care of the less fortunate.

To say nothing of the fact that "IT'S NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS" in any case. Pro-lifers are sanctimonious assholes, even if they are not Republicans.

I get that in some states, Democrats are more conservative, even sometimes anti-abortion, though they usually take pains to say that it is personal and has little to do with their policies. That doesn't make sense to me but whatever.

But here is a very obvious choice between pure fucking EVIL and a pretty decent guy who just happens not to want to legislate what women do with their bodies. Why is that the deal-breaker? And to people of color who decide to sit out, are you freaking kidding me? Sure Roy Moore is anti-abortion, but he is from the political party working to disenfranchise YOU (really, as many people as possible). To say nothing of all the other horrible Republican policies that are no good for anyone other than the 1%

(I mean I do not get why anyone who is a not a rich white guy hold conservative views. It makes no sense to me whatsoever.)
