Paramilitary: Marine Veteran Trains White Supremacists in Military Tactics

06.11.18 4:42 AM ET

Patriot Front formed after Charlottesville, and leaked messages reveal members are getting trained like they’re in boot camp.

A leader of an emerging white-supremacist group is a Marine veteran who uses his military experience to train other extremist recruits in military tactics, leaked messages show.

Erik Sailors is the head of a Texas chapter of Patriot Front, a white-supremacist group that splintered from one of the main groups at the deadly white-power rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, last year. Sailors gives “hip-pocket classes” (short, informal military class) to white nationalists, from the “gear list” of what members should bring to protests (Marine Corps-issued combat boots and decontaminate wipes) to lessons in mixed martial arts and hand-to-hand combat techniques, the leaked messages reveal.

<snip>

Marine Corps officials said Sailors enlisted in 2011 before transitioning to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) in 2016. Unlike active-duty or reserve forces, most IRR members have been discharged but can be recalled to active duty. While military regulations prohibit personnel from “actively advocating supremacist, extremist, or criminal gang doctrine, ideology, or causes,” it doesn’t apply to the IRR.

<snip>

There is no place for racial hatred or extremism in the Marine Corps. Our strength is derived from the individual excellence of every Marine regardless of background,” said Marine spokesman Maj. Brian Block.

I realise that most service members do not act/think this way. The article refers to "future missions" that Patriot Front is planning.

Even immobile, it's deadly to opposing infantry.

To enumerate every last thing we might run up against in a throw-down with the 'Deliverance' crowd is to surrender the field. I'm not going to do that. If they start an insurrection, we will finish it. Just like last time.

...but not necessarily. As you and I both know, that would depend on a number of factors.

That aside, I agree with you 100% on the second part of your response. Here's hoping it never has to get to that but if it does, oh well, been there done that...

After all, this white supremacist doing the training is a Marine. You know he's not the only one who served or is serving.

9. But there are a lot of progressive service members and veterans out there.

I didn't know how many until I found their Facebook pages. There are a lot of us.

Anyway, I think the subset of people out there who actively hope for armed insurrection against the United States is a pretty small one.
