(19,565 posts)2. It is an excellent editorial.
"You told the administration that kids would suffer as a result, that pain would be inflicted, correct? asked Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.
Separation of children from their parents entails significant risk of harm to children, White responded.
Since the Trump administration first implemented its family separation policy, the nation has been forced to watch while, drip by drip, evidence of its disastrous effects trickles out of detention centers, courthouses and newsrooms.
A five-year-old boy regressing to an infant state. A six-year-old girl sexually abused at an Arizona detention facility. Allegations that a young girl died after contracting a disease at the Family Residential Center outside San Antonio. Children kids entrusted to the United States government forcibly injected with psychotropic drugs at the Shiloh Treatment Center south of Houston.
Its the sort of thing you might associate with Soviet mental hospitals occurring in the shadow of Houston skyscrapers. A short drive from our homes, children were allegedly hurled to the ground for trying to open a window and fed mood-altering drugs they had been told were vitamins. These revelations shock the conscience, but theres little reason for anyone in the Trump administration to act surprised. Shiloh had been scrutinized for years.
