#Stop Kavanaugh: Supreme Court & Country's Future At Stake, Says Warren
'This Is Not a Drill': As Hearings Begin, Dems. Told to 'Go for the Jugular' to #StopKavanaugh. "We're going to make sure our senators hear us. We don't want someone determined to rollback our rights on the bench of our highest court! It's time to get loud!" Jake Johnson, Common Dreams, Sept. 4, 2018.
As Donald Trump's right-wing Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee for his first confirmation hearing Tuesday morning, progressive lawmakers & advocacy groups are ramping up what has been described as the "biggest campaign against a Supreme Court nominee in U.S. history" to stop a judge who poses a dire threat to the planet, workers, and the reproductive rights of women.
"If Kavanaugh is confirmed, he will rule for giant corporations and powerful interests on critical cases affecting the lives of Americans for a generation."- Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). "This is not a drill," Warren declared on Twitter Monday night. "The Supreme Court and the future of our country- are both on the line. If we're going to stop Kavanaugh, we need you to speak out now."
In addition to urging Americans to blow up the phone lines of Democratic senators who haven't committed to opposing Kavanaugh, activists also gathered outside the Senate in anticipation of Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing. Organized by MoveOn.org, NARAL & other progressive organizations, protests against the most unpopular Supreme Court nominee in decades will continue Tues. evening and throughout the rest of the week.
"The GOP is one vote away from swaying the balance of the Supreme Court and achieving their goal of gutting Roe v. Wade and ending critical healthcare protections. Brett Kavanaugh is just the guy for the job," progressive groups wrote on Facebook. "Despite what the Trump administration would have us believe, this country does not want to turn back the clock on our basic freedoms. We're going to make sure our senators hear us...
We don't want someone determined to rollback our rights on the bench of our highest court! "Last year, we convinced three of my Republican colleagues in the Senate to vote to stop Trumpcare. I believe that if enough of us speak out, we can convince Republican senators to do what's right once again and vote against Kavanaugh," said Warren. (29,213 posts)it will be two votes by early next week... I expect Kyl to toe the Repuke Line.
Second... I would like to hear a strategy that the Democratic Party can implement to stop the confirmation. Other than call (and for me, I live in a state with 2 no votes anyway).
So, other than calling, writing, or protesting... what strategy can the Democratic caucus in the Senate actually do to stop this?

We blew it big time and now we're paying the price.

(41,153 posts)and educate people. Gets them off the keyboard and couch. That's priceless, gold and largely what it's all about really.
I've read the many recent posts in the Clubroom about "the math," and "we don't have the numbers," and those lousy, evil, XY & Z's who didn't vote correctly for Hillary are responsible for this and trumpistan (not one of those).
And I'm not entering any discussions like that, not here and not in this case.

(41,153 posts)*Stop Kavanaugh: No Supreme Court nominees from an alleged criminal co-conspirator.*
Let's look at the facts. Several of the people closest to Donald Trump, including his former personal lawyer (Michael Cohen), former campaign chairman (Paul Manafort), former national security adviser (Michael Flynn), and others, have either been convicted of or have pleaded guilty to a range of federal offensesincluding campaign finance violations allegedly at the direction of candidate Trump.
Meanwhile, Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's Supreme Court nominee, has argued that a sitting president cannot be criminally indicted or even a subject of a criminal investigation while in office. The consequences of his confirmation could be enormous: Kavanaugh could become Trump's shield against accountability.
We must let Special Counsel Robert Mueller complete his investigation before proceeding with any Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
No American citizen under criminal investigation is able to choose their own judge. The president shouldn't be an exception.
Sign the petition if you agree that consideration of Supreme Court nominees must be paused while the President of the United States is an alleged co-conspirator in the commission of federal crimes.
