Seen on (yes) Facebook- about schools closing because it's cold. ❤️

A different perspective...interesting.

For all those who think that today’s students and teachers aren’t tough enough. This one is for you.

Why School is Cancelled:

School is cancelled because not all kids have parents like you. Today, they say school is cancelled over cold temperatures. You're right, buses can drive in the cold. You're right, teachers can teach in the cold. You're right, lunch attendants can cook in the cold.

However, the real reason school is cancelled is because not all kids have parents like you.
Not all kids get a ride to school, some walk the entire way. Not all kids get to sit in the warm car while they wait on the bus to come to the stop. Not all kids get to stand at the front door and run down the driveway when the bus pulls up. Most importantly, not all kids have coats.

Not all kids have coats because not all kids have parents like you. A parent to harass their kid about wearing thick socks and boots instead of summer sneakers. A parent who will check the weather the night before school to ensure their child wears a raincoat or hood or gloves. A parent who will simply buy their child long sleeves and pants when the weather gets cold. A parent who will tell their kid to put on a coat. A parent who had the resources to provide for their child.

So when you complain about having to find alternative daycare for your child because you think the school administration is just "too lazy" to get out in the cold...remember all the children who are thankful that they don't have to go out...because their parents haven't bought them a coat.

When your child outgrows a coat, hat or gloves, reach out to your local schools and ask if there are kids who don't have these items. I guarantee they will be able to find a home for those clothes.

A little kindness and understanding goes a long way! ❤️

Note: Please stop saying these kids are “soft” or starting stories with “back in my day,” because honestly, back in your day, 2 working parents could afford a house, 2 cars, and appropriate clothes for their kids. The same cannot be said for today, it’s record breaking cold, and being “soft” is that toxic masculinity that we keep talking about, cut it out!

When it's 25 below just waiting at the bus stop can be hazardous. Busses and iced over dirt roads do not fare well. One of the parents somewhere in the county called the news station to complain that her kids were missing out on an education. She lives in the rural portion of many dirt roads. The Superintendent had her meet him at the bus stop and it was sleeting sideways. She still complained. There were snow squalls from the wind, she did not care. I guess mommy didn't have a sitter.

Had a massive amount of snow dump in one day, and the bus drivers didn't want to risk not seeing the roads.

All of what you've suggested is pretty much SOP here, underpants. It kind of has to be. The schools, shelters, etc. all get donations regularly and I've never met a kid that minded wearing a second-hand parka at 30 below!

Kids ain't wimps and watch out for the snowball makers! They'll get you every time! Little shits...… LOL!
