psychiatrist: Trump should be quarantined, Cohen should fear for his life

I wish that I found this psychiatrist's comments exaggerated and preposterous. Alas they feel all too plausible to me. Sure, psychiatric analysis without meeting a patient is unprofessional, etc. But still

Author of "Trump on the Couch": Trump should be "quarantined"; Cohen should fear for his life

Psychiatrist Justin Frank on how Donald Trump gaslights America, embraces cruelty and "attacks thought itself"
(interviewer) I recently spoke with Dr. Justin Frank, a former clinical professor of psychiatry at the George Washington University Medical Center and a physician with more than 40 years of experience in psychoanalysis. He is the author of the bestselling books "Bush on the Couch" and "Obama on the Couch." His most recent book is "Trump on the Couch: Inside the Mind of the President."
. . . He is right. Donald Trump will not leave easily, if at all. If Trump does have to leave the White House he will do very destructive things afterwards. Donald Trump is not trustworthy, and should be forced to wear an ankle monitor like a person who is on parole. Luckily, Trump cannot remember all the secrets he now knows because his memory is impaired. But Donald Trump is a danger to our country. Cohen understands that Trump is resilient and Trump will never give up. Donald Trump will never give up because he is incapable of doing so. It is part of who he is. What Michael Cohen said about Donald Trump not voluntarily leaving the presidency is bone-chilling. It is also not surprising to me.The other thing that's dangerous about Donald Trump is that he is very comfortable whipping up hate and division. . . He has touched into a very primitive, fundamental part of people's character -- which is that people who have felt dismissed, disenfranchised, ignored by the government, promised things they have not received, people who've been deeply wounded and hurt and feel forgotten are attracted to him. Trump has a loyal following that he can take advantage of to cause trouble.. . .

. . Trump does not want anybody to tell the truth about him. Trump surrounds himself with liars because he knows they will lie to protect him. Trump also knows that he has power over them. This power is driven by their fear of Trump. The only people Donald Trump really trusts are his daughter and his older son, Don Jr. The rest of the people are afraid to say anything against Trump. This includes his wives. . . Trump cannot give Pelosi a nasty nickname because he is afraid of her. Donald Trump is also afraid of Robert Mueller. Trump is afraid of Mueller in the same way he was afraid of his father. Trump is also afraid of Nancy Pelosi in a similar way. They get him. Pelosi and Mueller cannot be seduced or intimidated by Trump. They are not going to fall for Trump's con. Mueller and Pelosi know that Donald Trump is a disturbed person. . .

"Donald Trump is capable of doing kind things but he's not a kind person. He's capable of being personable but he really doesn't like people." That describes a sociopath. But Donald Trump is more than a sociopath. Donald Trump is a narcissist, liar, sociopath, racist, sexist, adulterer, baby, hypocrite, tax cheat, outlaw, psychopath, paranoid, fraud, ignorant, vengeful, delusional, arrogant, greedy, contemptuous, unsympathetic, without empathy, learning-disabled, cruel, obstructer of justice, threat to the Constitution, a traitor. That is who Donald Trump is. He is untreatable. Until people understand that this situation is not normal and that Donald Trump, the president of the United States, is not manageable or treatable unless he's quarantined or marginalized to make him not dangerous, there is really nothing to be done.
. .
(interviewer question): Michael Cohen looked scared during his hearing before the House Oversight Committee. His confidence is a mask. If Cohen reached out to you for advice what would you tell him? I would tell Michael Cohen that he has every reason to be scared. Cohen should make it a condition of his providing testimony and other evidence that he receives protection while in prison. Michael Cohen is not safe. He has been called a "rat" too many times. Likewise, the United States is not safe under Donald Trump.

that not only can't shoot straight but don't seem clear on which end of the gun they're supposed to be holding. They're elevated by accident of history far, far above their levels of competence and, yes, self-backed into a corner, mainly by their own inability to discipline their corruption, or even to stop plotting crimes by email.

As for Cohen, my husband and I were talking just the other day about how extremely UNcommon political and very high level business murder is -- outside movies and novels anyway. He'd only need one, of course.

Trump is proven cruel and very willing to hurt others, but so far he's been far more notable for both fear of using his power and for lack of understanding of what it is and how he can use it. He admires murderous dictators, but it's at most a vicarious kinship. He's badly handicapped by pathological ignorance and lack of understanding of his world, and also by cowardice. He's fascinated by but afraid of great military power. He always backs down from confrontations that would require matching guts, competence, and strength of will against others.

He looks to others he's gathered to him, who all share his faults to significant degree, to provide the courage and backbone he lacks, and now to ruthlessly smash a path through our institutions to safety and increased power, but of course they fail even though that's their only path as well. So far.

We'll see. But I think in the end he and his vicious gang of criminal fools will be completely outmatched by those who've decided he must leave. The big unknowns that scare me are what Russia and other foreign states might do to help the Republicans keep power, and perhaps him.

the article states, and I would add: the WORLD is indeed not safe while he is untethered. From the article: "Until people understand that this situation is not normal and that Donald Trump, the president of the United States, is not manageable or treatable unless he's quarantined or marginalized to make him not dangerous, there is really nothing to be done."

he'll probably "win" a second term.

Something is up in all of this. We're seeing a broad-based institutional defense of trump and the only explanation I can think of is; they're all as compromised as trump.

and containing him to the best of their abilities. The Republicans have been deeply weakened since the midterms. We're in a collective state of "hold your breath" until 2020. Then the building resistance will explode. Dozens of Republican Senators are likely to step down due to a lousy choice between losing the next election or winning, but having no power with a Democratic House.

We may have a hierarchical democratic system, but in addition to the checks and balances built into that very system, we also have the DNA of that democracy built into most of the citizens and spread throughout courts, laws and non-profit foundations. Obviously 30% of the citizens, Trump's base, never got the lesson in school (or they did but being in his cult induced a short circuit). But the DNA is now activated in the other 70% and a genuine resistance has flared up like antibodies in the immune system.

Another analogy: when a tree is bent to the breaking point by a strong wind, the cells regrow stronger than ever. It can then withstand even greater threats. Nixon strengthened America in many ways, giving rise to progressive legislation and a narrative about dysfunctional presidencies. The Great Depression produced the New Deal.

With both Nixon and the first New Deal in our institutional wisdom, Trump may easily induce a Green New Deal. I'm not gonna wait around for that to happen though. My immune system is already triggered and I put a handmade sign on my car that stretches across the entire bumper:

– A Green Regenerative America –
— G R E E N • N E W • D E A L —

He's always been a madman, but his previous life did not have as much exposure to his non-public behavior.
It was easier for him to keep control over much fewer people, via lawyers, lawsuits, good publicity. and if needed, muscle and henchmen. He still had plenty of enablers who got personal benefit from being associated with him.
But his sphere of influence basically was NY and Nj., his international buildings were put up with the help of a silent criminal partner of various countries....I remember reading that Trump built in Vancouver BC with a Malaysian criminal element partner, for example.

Now of course he has a world stage, massive amounts of money and weapons and power at his fingertips, at least as far as he can use them. and has global henchmen..look at how other countries are using him, for example. Look how Erik Prince is getting support for his ventures in china, Africa, Middle East. And of course whatever we are calling the Republican Party that enables him so damn much.
He also has world news coverage, has many more people who can report on his crazy behavior, and a growing number of people who are realizing what he is.

I totally agree that he is untreatable. Megalomania alone is difficult to stop, plus he has severe narcissism. Hitler's choice of exits is not likely.

Only force can stop him, and that is a problem the Dems are starting to recognize,
He won't go "backwards" as he sees it unless he can view it as winning.
And how the hell do you "win" by walking away from being President of the US? He has been talking about being "President for LIfe" like his pal Putin.

Pissing off the Russian mob/oligarchs is known to be a deadly thing to do.
Now one court just laid claim to 11 million bucks, and Manafort owes millions to Dispersa or whatever his name is.

Which is interesting, that Manafort even stole that much money from the guy who is so rich and powerful.
