It feels like being hunted -El Paso Latino anxiety

Here in El Paso, a border city of about 680,000 that is about 80 percent Hispanic, the massacre has felt uniquely personal. Chris Grant, 50, a witness to the El Paso attack who was wounded by the gunman, told The El Paso Times that he had seen the gunman allowing white and African-American shoppers out of the Walmart but was spraying Latinos with bullets. In an online post, the attacker complained about a “Hispanic invasion of Texas.”

Residents now talk about how it feels dangerous to go out to eat or to the movies. Gun shops in the city are bustling with customers, many of them Latino.

“It’s basically out of the instinct of not wanting to be a victim,” said Zachary Zuñiga, 32, a lawyer in El Paso who signed up for a shooting course and is planning to buy his first gun.

the Walmart down the road yesterday. The Store is actually in North Las Vegas which is a very ethnic diverse City. Talk about tension. Notice three off duty Police Department Persons, pretty hard to hide the body armor, walking the store as well as a couple Rent-a-Cops. This is the first of the month and back to school with school starting Monday, one would see this store Jam packed with Families no matter what day it is during this time of year.

BTW,the Store was like a tomb, just a few of us old folks doing our thing.

Kind of like the day after 9/11.

After working Retail, one picks up on the nuances that non Retail Workers would never see.

I have never experienced the Tension like that since 9/11. Understandable, since we have a sizable Militia presence in our Region. The usual Players will be out in force this weekend driving around with their Flags flying in the Stake Pockets of their Pick-ups.

in a purple are of Kentucky. Marked units of law enforcement in the parking lot. All the employees already had a inservice about what to expect, we know one of the young guys who works there. Walmart told employees you might see more people carrying pistols, but no long guns allowed. Also no music playing. It feels a bit spooky and you're aware of where you are, and where the doors out of the building are.

All over head notices were announced by the Lady Store assistant Manager.

My guess is,Walmart took billions of dollars in lost sales yesterday and it will continue until they make a positive Statement about violence within their Properties and putting a halt to it.

I live in a farming community. There use to be a) people working out in the fields. I see no one. Maybe a small handfull...and b) people use to come from all over, including the city to shop at the larger farm stands for produce. People mostly of latino/mexican descent. I don't know how many were illegal or not. But I think they know even if they are legal, they will be harrassed, maybe even arrested and have to prove their citizenship. ICE started with the arrests shortly after Trump became president. There was an article in my local paper about how the ones on LI are in hiding. They often come out only at night to run their errands/shop, etc.. The fruit tree farm by me was purchased by someone else after Trump. Most of their business came from latinos. It will probably go out of business. I don't really feel sorry for him, because he is part of the "big ag". But it is alarming that all these people have disappeared. The roads use to be impassible on the weekends. Now there are only a few vehicles in the parking lot.

This is sad and pathetic. They are in hiding because of the gestapo. How can one live that way? How are you able to financially survive when you are in hiding? And this is from the get go, before the increasing fear of feeling like they are prey to a mass shooting because of Trump's rhetoric.

our Economy as well as the lively hood of our Community would collapse in a heart beat if the Latino Community is ever set upon. The Local PD's played that game in conjunction with DHS and the Casino Moguls put a stop to it. The loss of 50k plus workers in a impromptu strike seemed to be the nail that ended that crap.

Even Trumps POS of a Hotel would be empty of Employees.
