The Obvious Solution to Our Social Security Problem

Guaranteeing America's working people a decent retirement has become increasingly difficult with the decline of traditional pension plans and the glaring inadequacy of the 401 (k) savings accounts that have replaced them.

So what to do? The answer is obvious to the AFL-CIO, and should be to everyone else: Increase Social Security benefits.

As AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka notes, "Social Security is a phenomenally successful program that represents the very best in American values and has virtually no waste, no corruption and almost no overhead."

The program does have one serious problem, however – "its benefits are too low."

2. Let's hope he can convince the voters. They keep electing people who want Social Security gone.

A variety of excuses are used, from philosophy, religion, the deficit, to the notions that illegals that might get some, welfare queens, anything they can use to make people disrespect each other.

can be convinced. Even if they could it wouldn't help. I honestly believe it is too late. We're toast. America, as it was meant to be, as it could have become, is no more.

Ron Paul or something always say the are trying to "save social security". And they claim the only way to save it is reduce it, raise the retirement age, dismantle it, etc.

I think some voters are really misled and don't understand what policies they are voting for.

Until Reaganomics is killed dead... this country has no chance of survival.

I'd say two serious problems. The first and most serious problem being that congress is permitted to use it like a limitless credit card; the second problem being that "its benefits are too low."
