These cities have begun defunding police in the wake of George Floyd protests

(NOTE: This article was originally from Fox News, but it's nowhere close to some of the other crap you read from them. Just ignore Hannity's video. He's an idiot, but if anyone can give me a different link other than Fox, feel free to add it in your post, or send it to me and I'll replace mine.)

These cities have begun defunding police in the wake of George Floyd protests

As the final of three memorial services for George Floyd began Monday in his hometown of Houston, protests that happen in his name are continuing across the country, with the Black Lives Matter movement now advocating to #AbolishPolice.

The Democratic-led House of Representatives on Monday is expected to unveil new legislation aimed at defunding police departments across the country.

Though, a recent poll conducted by YouGov found “despite calls by activists and protesters to defund police departments, most Americans do not support reducing law enforcement budgets.” Just 16 percent of Democrats and 15 percent of Republicans said they were in favor of the idea.

1. The proposed House legislation

has no provision for ‘defunding’ police departments:

“Some protesters have called for defunding police departments, but the House bill does not include any funding specifically for police departments and instead would implement grants to community organizations with the aim of building partnerships which allow for greater accountability.”

More lies from Fox.

When you're mistreated by cops, you know they shouldn't be getting paid while they do this to you. We've seen way too many examples of sadistic use of force these last 2 weeks. Do you WANT to financially support these thugs? They're not going to show their appreciation if you do. Don't let the media scare you into misinterpreting the simple obvious evidence of your own eyes, facts. People are in a position of power at this very short moment in time. Don't sell it short. Don't sell it for nothing.
Remember, it's not only precious black lives. It's precious LGBT lives. It's precious Muslim lives. Precious Methodist lives. Precious lives of the future, those yet unborn.
It's the life of anyone who is targeted by a system where every human interaction is boiled down to a "situation", which must be controlled! And the discretion of using force is often in the hands of monsters.

I agree with what protesters want including taking the military aspect our of the police force. But when you say defund, you will see ads that will terrify the scared people we need to win this election. People in the burbs still want to be able to call a cop when their house is broken into or their daughter is assaulted. We can't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Now, I am no supporter of the boys in blue these days, but I am smart enough to realize if we don't win the white house, they will become para military like we have never seen before after November.

We need good police, not military police. We need community resources for things like mental health and domestic violence. We must be careful about the "defund" talk.

Ok everyone have at it, I'm sure you all don't see what I do on this issue. We have to get laws in place to protect everyone, especially the POC. We need to push back against the racism in the ranks, especially in the Fraternal Order of Police. But using defund will bite us, I am sure of it. If we don't win in November it will be a full on war against Black and Brown people by the police with the Commander in Chief leading the charge.
