AOC's speech about Ted Yoho's 'apology' was a comeback for the ages

If you click on only one thing today, let it be Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Thursday morning speech, delivered from the House floor and directed to a fellow member of Congress, but really to us all.

“You can be a powerful man and accost women,” said the New York Democrat. “You can have daughters and accost women, without remorse. You can be married and accost women. You can take photos, and project an image to the world of being a family man, and accost women, without remorse, and with a sense of impunity. It happens every day in this country.”

Two days prior, on the steps of the Capitol, Ocasio-Cortez found herself in a heated conversation with Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.). He called her “disgusting,” he said she was “out of [her] freaking mind,” and when the discussion ended, Yoho allegedly uttered the words, “f---ing b---h.”

In her Thursday speech, Ocasio-Cortez said she’d planned to ignore the insult — that being a woman had required a lifetime of ignoring such insults — but changed her mind after Yoho himself brought up the matter in his own speech in the House. “Having been married for 45 years with two daughters, I’m very cognizant of language,” Yoho had said, insisting that he'd been misheard and hadn’t used the pejorative phrase that a reporter from The Hill heard him say. While Yoho apologized for the “misunderstanding,” he said, “I cannot apologize for my passion or for loving my God, my family and my country.”

campaign exclusively against this cretin. This is NOT how a member of the esteemed Congress should ever, ever, act.

Needs to be, at a minimum, censored by the House, for inappropriate language (but being that it occurred outside the chambers, of course nothing will happen to the scumbag. Thus, scorn should be piled upon this idiot...when a house member uses such disgusting language in public too, of all places! I want to throw up. Wow, what a way to show others in our society how to act like a gentleman, eh? I guess this idiot doesn't know what a 'gentleman' is.

He wants to return to his previous life of sticking his arms up the rear ends of cattle.

It was everything that women like me never got to say. We were told not to rock the boat, be the bigger person, be a LADY - crap like that. Thank you AOC, you have no idea how many of us wept after you spoke.

and on every platform I use.

This was a brilliant, long overdue and necessary Hard slap to the self-righteous, misogynistic face of countless entitled males who feel it is their born and bred privilege to abuse and patronize females.

I’m sure this man being “very cognizant of language”
means that he is well aware how demeaning his words are to females and he has most likely used that “cognizance” on wife and daughters without impunity.

Cannot apologize for his passion or for loving his god and country???
Anyone Standing within fifty feet of him could smell the reeking stench of desperation behind that particular cliched shield.

Brilliant statement AOC. One that should be repeated as many times a day as abusive language is socially and culturally permitted to be used on females.
