Luke Russert, nepotist prince - The Hack List - Salon.com
"Tim Russert was not the unalloyed saint of tough journalism that his celebrators describe in posthumous tributes, but he was at least a classic American success story, of the sort that we still enjoy pretending is common: Blue-collar kid from Rust Belt town becomes enormously successful thanks largely to brains and hard work. The story of Luke Russert, alas, is a much more common one in American life: No-account kid of successful person has more success thrust upon him.
Pretty much immediately upon the death of his father, Luke Russert inexplicably had a full-time broadcasting job, supplanting his part-time broadcasting job co-hosting a satellite radio sports talk show with James Carville. (That was a real thing that actually existed. Can you imagine a human who would want to listen to that?)"

(45,319 posts)the dust in terms of sheer brain power, her memory is fairly amazing, she's wonky as all hell, holds two Master's Degrees and is working on her doctoral from Oxford. Luke has a BA in communications from Boston College. The comparison is specious.

(40,656 posts)qualified for over better qualified people? She is a broker type. She got the job because of her parents. That makes her the equal of Luke because he got his job because of his dad. Smart isn't the comparison. Getting jobs because of your name is. Specious? Nope.

(325 posts)the world of media newscasting, Luke Russert's arrival at MSNBC isn't one of them for me, sorry.
This just doesn't bother me that much, not one bit.
It does bother me that someone thought this two paragraph article in Salon.com was a "good read"!

(1,939 posts)It's amazing that we can't get news when we have reporters that inherit their positions like they're in a monarchy. Pretty hard to ask the tough questions when they were all your dad's buddies. You got Tim Russert's boy, who father was right down in the middle of Scooter Libby swamp but why not just reward his son. He probably was the greatest student coming out of journalism school. It's just a way for the networks to say we don't take the news seriously and neither should you.

(1,939 posts)Why don't they just give the baby a microphone and let him crawl around in front of politicians at the Democratic convention of 2016 or 2020. After all everyone loves cute baby pictures.
