GOP Threatens to Defund the Troops if Raped Military Women Have Access to Abortion

This year, as the Senate Armed Services Committee prepared its yearly assault on civil rights aka the National Defense Authorization Act (aka; NDAA; aka “it’s Obama’s fault”), but this year in addition to the usual goodies about refusing to fund the transfer of prisoners from Gitmo, they’ve also included funding for abortions in the case of rape or incest for women who are serving in the military.
We can haz freedom?
Cue the House Republicans poutrage.
The amendment was proposed by Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D, N.H), hence it’s informally known as “the Shaheen amendment”. Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash), ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, supports the amendment, but the House Republicans are notorious for their legislative activism. Sure, the NDAA has passed for fifty years, but this is the House that refused to raise the debt ceiling.
You think they won’t let the military go unfunded just to ensure that no female solider has access to an abortion after she’s raped? Try them.
The Military Times reported:

The House Republicans say they can’t be sure they will pass the NDAA with the abortion amendment, because, “a Republican staffer familiar with defense issues said the Shaheen amendment stands little chance of surviving in the final compromise defense authorization bill.

“Historically, social provisions that are not reflected in both bills heading into conference don’t survive,” he said. “Amendments like this have come up several times.”

Oh, right. We can’t insert social issues into the NDAA, but it can be used to get around the President’s Executive Order to close Gitmo. Yes, this happened in spite of what some of your angry friends write on your Facebook Page. A second order signed the same day also banned torture. However, our government works such that only Congress can fund such orders and they don’t see fit to do so because they are very busy chasing down gays and women.

Maybe then the troops would say, "screw it", put their guns down and go home.
Yeah, I know: it doesn't really work that way.

Hate to say it, but my immediate thought was call the GOP's blush. Let them block funding for the military if they want to. Works for me.

And site the source and date. The Republicans are writing the Democrats political ads for them. Of course that is too easy and would take a spine, so it will never happen.

When will the hate for everything female end?

I am sad about all of this.

Isn't it a crime? Abortion is the medical attention received from a crime.

I seriously doubt the GOP wants the Democrats running CONGRESSMAN TEABAGGER DOESN'T SUPPORT THE TROOPS ads during this election; I also think there are many anti-abortion people who support exceptions for rape, incest and the life and health of the mother.

So...start with the "Congressman Teabagger doesn't support the troops" ads then follow them up with a spot showing a long, long line of women carrying babies into a prison, with this voiceover: "These women got pregnant from rapes. Their rapists were thrown in jail, but they won visitation rights...so now, for the next 18 years, these women have to go to a prison once a month and face their rapists. Congressman Teabagger thinks this is perfectly fine."

Call it the 21st century equivalent of the pigfucker attack LBJ proposed...according to Hunter Thompson, LBJ once suggested running an attack ad against one of his opponents that intimated his opponent enjoyed frequent connubial relations with his barnyard swine. Said his staff, "but sir, we can't call him a pigfucker." LBJ smiled and said, "true, but let's make the SOB deny it."

This is the party that represents FAMILY VALUES!!

This is not your father's Republican party. It's now been taken over by CRAZY people(or the right wing of the party to be politically correct).

Why is the Democratic Party even talking to these people? If a mentally ill person started to ramble on with the crazy thoughts that these tea party politicians spew out, you'd turn and walk away.

Why is the Democratic Party engaging in conversation with people who are so off the wall, and out of touch with the rest of us? Why VALIDATE them? That goes for the news media, why are you talking to them? Why are they on the Sunday talk shows?

Now, they won't fund the troops if there's a provision stating that a woman raped while in the military can have an abortion.

Good , go ahead and DON'T FUND THE TROOPS. Tell the world you're UNPATRIOTIC, not too worried about the terrorists, that you'd rather NOT FUND your military and protect your country, because of a raped women having an abortion.

I hope the abortion provision STAYS!

You know what I think? I'd like for the U.S. to do what the European Union is doing. That's right,I'd like to see the U.S. divided. The Red States and Blue States would become TWO COUNTRIES!!!!!!

Let those Red States have Mitt Romney, no health care, MORE TAXES for the poor, no money for education, no Social Security, no abortions, right to work states, no gays, no blacks, no illegals , no unions, no firemen, no teachers, more jobs shipped overseas, constant wars all over the world, 1% ruling them. Keep the woman barefoot and pregnant keep, the guys happy with their guns. You get the idea, let them have what they want!

As a Blue State, we can live with rational people, who believe in a government that helps its people. A country that discusses issues , that doesn't believe in war and cares for the good of it's people. A civilized society, that has the U.S. Constitution, to protect its citizens.

I'm tired of fighting people who are bullies. Le'ts WALK AWAY from them and have our own country. Wonder how well they'll do on their own?

pro-rape. And the Gop is anti-military, starting wars of choice when the U.S. is in no danger.

Neither Rmoney nor his sons wanted to serve, why should he get the opportunity to become commander in chief?
