Opinion Israel Can't Imprison Two Million Gazans Without Paying a Cruel Price
Behind all this lies Israeli arrogance; the idea that we can do whatever we like, that well never pay the price and be punished for it. Well carry on undisturbed.
(snip)
On Saturday, Israel saw pictures it has never seen before. Palestinian vehicles patrolling its cities, bike riders entering through the Gaza gates. These pictures tear away at that arrogance. The Gaza Palestinians have decided theyre willing to pay any price for a moment of freedom. Is there any hope in that? No. Will Israel learn its lesson? No.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bears very great responsibility for what happened, and he must pay the price, but it didnt start with him and it wont end after he goes. We now have to cry bitterly for the Israeli victims, but we should also cry for Gaza.
Gaza, most of whose residents are refugees created by Israel. Gaza, which has never known a single day of freedom.

(11,360 posts)any semblance to 'two sides of a story' in the past couple of days.
The horrors committed by Hamas (and they clearly are horrible, despicable and utterly inhumane) - have apparently short-circuited any need for mention of any transgression or contribution on the part of Israel. Expect to be shouted down shortly ..

I appreciate you sharing this article because all the media does is show human stories, with faces and families, on the Israeli side; and long-distance shots of destruction porn on the Gaza side.
Israel "demolishes buildings" while Hamas "murders and decapitates". No opportunity for a Gazan mother to stall the IDF with coffee and cookies when the pilot who's about to wipe out her entire bloodline is cruising at 3000 feet.

(80 posts)Hamas won't win any sympathy for Palestine after beheading innocent babies.
You lost me when you started beheading innocents and murdering grandmas. Go Israel.

(2,374 posts)Or is merely killing innocents enough? Israeli bombs may or may not behead their victims, but they kill innocents aplenty...

(53,983 posts)Meet the Jews defending Hamas
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Israeli consulate in New York City Monday for what might be considered the opposite of a peace rally: No peace on stolen land, the demonstrators chanted.
The Emergency Rally for Gaza was organized after Palestinian militants broke through the fence enclosing the seaside enclave Saturday and rampaged through towns in southern Israel, killing dozens of soldiers and hundreds of civilians, and kidnapping more than 150 others, including women, children and the elderly.
A graphic promoting the rally on social media declared that its goal was to defend Palestinian resistance and honor the martyrs of Palestine.
Among the events key sponsors were three anti-Zionist Jewish groups including Not In Our Name, which is based at the City University of New York, and Judaism On Our Own Terms, which was founded more than a decade ago as Open Hillel.
