Romney's lies won't work in the debates

" Romney's first problem is the debate he's having with himself on one issue after another. On each major issue, he needs to decide which one of his various positions he will advance in the debates. That is a nightmare no candidate should be faced with, but one that Romney has made necessary: he has to debate himself first.

Romney's second problem is deciding how much or little to lie. I have never before seen a presidential candidate lie so casually and often on the campaign trail. Does he dare risk those lies with the nation watching? With reporters and fact-checkers eager to pounce and publicize every lie as a lie? With the possibility President Obama will have to chronically correct him and embarrass him before the nation? President Obama has the advantage of having campaigned using honest numbers and facts concerning the issues. He will be able to take many of his road-tested arguments straight into the debate. Romney will not. I imagine Romney will try to clean up his act some for the debates, which means he's faced with learning or remembering a whole raft of different numbers and facts he's not used to talking about on the campaign trail. Keeping the new truths separate from his practiced lies will prove challenging and confusing, at best, and may prove impossible. "

This is part of a wise and thoughtful comment by Roameo, responding to Roger Simon's article at Politico. It's a repost from GD, where it sank like some heavy object..

I think this is the crux of it for mittens in all aspects of life. He will be crushed like an empty, rain-soaked piñata in these debates.

I expect him to pull a Palin and refuse to follow the rules of debate. He'll just barf up one talking point after another, apropos of nothing, and ignore any questions from the moderator as well as challenges and rebuttals from President Obama.
Doubt that the President will let him get away with it.

Romney won't be able to remember where he last stood on any particular topic. Unfortunately for him, he has to lie to backtrack on his previous lies. Lyin' Ryan is no different. If you tell the truth, then you never have to remember which lies are the most recent.

I hope that the entire debate is a slow and painful event for Mitt Romney...sweating bullets the whole time. He deserves every minute of it. And Ann can squirm in her seat trying to hold back and yell, "Stop it!"
