An Open Letter to Ann Coulter

An Open Letter to Ann Coulter

Dear Ann Coulter,

Come on Ms. Coulter, you aren’t dumb and you aren’t shallow. So why are you continually using a word like the R-word as an insult?

I’m a 30 year old man with Down syndrome who has struggled with the public’s perception that an intellectual disability means that I am dumb and shallow. I am not either of those things, but I do process information more slowly than the rest of you. In fact it has taken me all day to figure out how to respond to your use of the R-word last night.

I thought first of asking whether you meant to describe the President as someone who was bullied as a child by people like you, but rose above it to find a way to succeed in life as many of my fellow Special Olympians have.

Then I wondered if you meant to describe him as someone who has to struggle to be thoughtful about everything he says, as everyone else races from one snarkey sound bite to the next.

It's in Coulter's nature that compassion, love and understanding for the unfortunates do not exist.

This is what Coulter does. It's what almost all of those "pundits" on the right do. They can't analyze the issues in a cogent, informative way, like a Rachel Maddow, because they know they would lose. So they just hurl insults and indulge in name-calling to get attention.

I remember when Coulter called Clinton and Gore "latent homosexuals." (I guess that's an insult in her universe.) aAnd of course she once referred to John Edwards as a "fag."

So Sandra Fluke is a "slut" and Edwards, Clinton, and Gore are "fags." It's like not-too-bright kids on an elementary school playground.

And the Fox News viewers -- i.e.pinheads -- will lap it up.

example. I have concluded long ago that she must be the victim of serious long term child abuse, which must have started at a very early age. No psychologically healthy person could come up with the abusive stuff she says. Certainly, nobody with any self respect could do what she does as long as she has been doing it.

Ms. Coulter,

Thank you for comparing developmentally delayed people to President Obama!

While not all of us can achieve what he has, your praise has given us encouragement to do more and try harder.

You made me proud to be called a retard.

Sincerely,

Forrest Gump et al
