Ohio’s GOP Secretary of State Pulls More Voter Suppression Out of His …. Hat

http://www.politicususa.com/ohios-republican-secretary-street-pulls-voter-suppression-hat.html

Just when you thought we knew all the Republican tricks to make voting more complicated, more bureaucratic and more exclusive, Jon Husted came up with an additional step.

Four days before the election, Ohio’s Secretary of State decided to add an extra step to the process for people who are voting with provisional ballots.

Under the previous rules, Election Officials had to complete all the paperwork that goes with a provisional ballot. But not in Jon Husted’s Ohio. He suddenly decided late Friday afternoon, to put the onus on voters to complete the paper work.

According to a report by Brandon Blackwell, Husted ordered county officials to discount provisional ballots if the accompanying paperwork is not filled out properly. According to the same report, voter advocacy groups challenged this latest stunt by Husted in court. Fingers crossed that the Courts will smack down this latest stunt by a Secretary of State who has put partisan politics above his responsibilities to the voters of Ohio.

on the planet. For the voters sake, I hope the court smacks it down. But dumb phuck is still going to prison.

For example: since OHIO is THE swing state that "elects" the President, we should file a class action suit on behalf of all the legal, qualified American voters.

Perhaps someone with deep pockets wouldn't mind spending a million or so to make Husted's life a living hell.

As a voting location judge for Ohio, I have the training manual for this election and in the Paper Ballot Instructions section is the description of the provisional ballot envelope and voter process. All the voter has to provide is:

Full name (printed)

One of the following:

Last four digits of SSN
or
Full eight-digit Ohio Driver's License Number
or
Show and check one of the following:
Military ID Card
Current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document (except count Board of Elections communications) that shows name and address.
Any form of photo ID that shows name and address except passport (passport does not have address)
Fill out Form 10-T (affirmation that they are who they say they are)

Signature and date

We are available to help and check it if they ask. In years past, this has been much more complicated. Most provisional votes occur because people move of change their name.

All locations are required to have both Democratic and Rethug judges. We get less than 1% voters voting provisional as the ID rules are pretty lax compared to other states like PA or GA and we have a copy of their signature to verify them as a last resort.
