(16,846 posts)I remember feeling the same way, although I wasn't the valedictorian of my class. Our system sucks the life out of people. We have all these nifty inventions and every convenience and now we don't know what to do with ourselves. It will literally drive a person mad if they think about it very much.

I loved school. I feel so badly about what we are doing to our kids in these testing environments.
We had what were called "achievement tests." This was back in the 60-70's. They gave them in 3rd, 6th & 9th grades. Every kid loathed going into those years, because you knew come spring, you would have 3 days worth of testing. In 9th grade, on the last day of testing, I darkened "B" on my entire sheet, turned it in in just a few minutes, & picked up my book to read. I got sent to the principals office, but I didn't have to re-take that test. The teacher watched me like a hawk the rest of the day.
If I had to that every year, I would have hated school.
