(16,646 posts)If he was looking for some kind of protection, he'd stay on as pope. Head of State and all that would protect him to some extent, far more than being a former head of state. The only way this makes any sense is if there was some intent to try to protect the Church. Basically not wanting to have the Pope under indictment. But even that is a bit weak since he'll still be the former pope. The man is getting close to dying. Any attempt to prosecute him will almost assuredly take longer than he'll be alive.
And Opus Die is so wide spread and powerful I'd be surprised that they couldn't prevent an indictment from ever actually being issued.

There is only one source and it is dubious. No other news outlet will touch it because it's made up.
Go back and look at the previous DU post regarding this story. It's just Internet blather.
I'm all for bringing down the Vatican but let's do it with something real. It's a waste of time and the net is full of these myths which undermine the cause for bringing these guys to justice. We don't need anymore false claims. There's enough real to get them.
