(10,893 posts)but I was so surprised at the glaring lie he told about Medicare not being a program. I'm normally not the best at detecting the lies they tell, but that was so obvious that even a blind man could see it.

(21,768 posts)Excuse me, but during the campaign 6 months ago, Romney and Ryan both attacked Obama for cutting Medicare by 7.16 billion dollars. Now republicans are attacking him for refusing to cut Medicare. I guess that logic will fly with O'Reilly fans, but why doesn't the "mainstream media" point out the discrepancy? Bill's fans will love this.

(18,636 posts)Typical Fox News talk show. O'Rielly gives Crowley "the last word" so she can make an anti-Obama monologue uninterrupted, then takes the real last word to dispute everything the progressive guest said.
Tomorrow, if his show stays true to form, he'll talk at length about how wrong Colmes was without him there to defend his points.
The Republicans want Obama to cut SS and Medicare so they can blame it on him for ten years, like they did with Clinton and welfare reform. That's why they keep complaining that he "wont lead" on this. They don't want to do it by themselves. At least not while we're looking.

(18,636 posts)I wondered later if there's going to be a phone call between the sisters. Either O'Rielly's behavior is inexcusable, or it's all stagecraft. I hate to be so cynical as to believe the latter.
I do think people like Crowley are network actors though, paid to deliver a message despite their real beliefs.

(719 posts)The idea that President Obama is intentionally trying to bankrupt or otherwise devastate the United States so that he can forward his political agenda is gaining hold in the mainstream Conservative media. Yesterday I listened to Rush Limbaugh take a call from a lunatic who was convinced that Obama wants to see the U.S. torn apart like the Soviet Union was. Limbaugh did not refute this absurd premeise, though he did question the guy, asking him why Obama would do that. Eventually he got his answer, that the President is just a commie who hates America.
For Limbaugh and his call screener to give air time to someone this nuts without the purpose of refuting his paranoid delusion is extremely irresponsible. I am not a big fan of the President, but he does not deserve the kind of hate that O'Reilly and Limbaugh are channelling directly toward him. It is quickly reaching the level where violence becomes inevitable.

(14,087 posts)public. Those are the people's airwaves. This is OUR country. How can they be allowed to lie? The Supreme Court needs to revisit this, and change the way America exercises free speech. They can say what they want on editorial tv, but they shouldn't be allowed to deceive intentionally and represent it as "news".

(2,983 posts)Really? I mean, this is who he brings in to represent the other side? A guy who almost meekly lets himself be verbally smacked down, talked over and shouted down? Towards the end, when he makes his sorry excuse for an apology, Colmes says (sarcastically, I hope) that he rather enjoyed it, or that it was great or something. You'd think that was sarcasm, but it almost seems like Colmes ENJOYS being a whipping boy for various conservatives, from O'Reilly, to Hannity, to Ann Coulter and other disgusting pieces of human shit.
I do not think O'Reilly honestly lost it. I think he gave the pretense of losing it so he could convince his audience that he was genuinely outraged (and telling the truth) with the Obama administration for doing nothing. The reality is that the administration, and the President, simply aren't doing everything that assholes like O'Reilly want them to do. You know, Colmes, why not mention Chained CPI while you're up there and looking like a mouse trying to convince a cat he's not a midnight snack?
Bah. I'd love to see O'Reilly attempt to debate someone like Howard Dean in such a fashion. Damn, I'd pay to see that.

(2,983 posts)I mean, there are so called "entitlement" programs that the President has been willing to negotiate on. Chained CPI is one example of this. Rather than just sort of throwing out "Medicare", he might have brought that up. I just watch this, imagining how I would react in a similar situation. I'm generally the quiet sort (in real life) and I don't tend to provoke confrontations or become involved in them if I have a choice, but my voice would have (in this instance) been raw from shouting back at that jackass. If he wants to turn his show into a circus, fine, let's go ahead and do that, but let's not sit meekly by while he lies and insults us.
Colmes (or is it Colms?) has a history of sort of sitting quietly by while lies and propaganda are blathered all over television. Occasionally he'll become outraged when a conservative calls him a liar, but this has happened so frequently - and he has been so quietly outraged (almost as if he's apologetic for it) that it just... bugs me. I mean, is he paid to just let them push him around or something? People like O'Reilly are bullies - and as someone who was frequently a victim of bullying throughout my childhood, they infuriate me to no end. I keep hoping that Colmes (Colms, whatever) will shout something back, maybe even knock the idiot out of his chair.
On the other hand, maybe he's just doing his job, playing the relatively spineless democrat who lets angry conservatives shit all over him.

Young man, very well-spoken and, most importantly, calm. It was like zen. He made his points, did not rise to the bait, and O'Reilly underwent violent decomposition. "Cut his mike! On account of respect for your father, a patriot, I won't give you the kind of language you deserve."
Colmes is a contemptible shit-weasel. To my mind Colmes will forever be defined by is Smeagol-like obsequiousness, patting his head and bobbing "I'm a good liberal!" while Hannity looked on in approval. I'd never seen a white man shuck and jive but I have now. And that isn't something I'm making up, that was a real clip.
I would dearly love to see someone punch that drunk in the throat, see him choke on a mixture of tongue and bile.

(53,661 posts)Those rants were followed with Hannity's weekly 2-Minute Hate detailing all of America's Enemies - liberals and anti-war people. We always had anti-war groups, it's America's often ignored moral core. It's been just 1984 for years at Foul Noise. Terrifying to watch it play out daily, so I turned it off. Thom Hartmann put it all together for me here on DU some time back. Hidden in plain sight.
