talk to me about Ayn Rand and "2000 years of revelation".

He's a devout Catholic as well, or so he says. It's certainly not any form of Christianity I recognize.

to explaining this phenomenon. I would add that the current wave of Rethugs are so vile and mean-spirited that Rand's indefensible bullshit is just a better fit with their extremism than it was before. Eisenhower was considered more or less to be a conservative Republican. However, I can not imagine him ever referring to people as "parasites" or some of the other demeaning things that are regularly used by these right-wing zealots. In Eisenhower's time there was real bipartisanship in politics and concern for the general welfare. The infrastructure was well funded, and public schools and hospitals were considered good for society as a whole. Unions were an accepted part of our society and a middle class family could actually afford to buy a decent home, put their children through college and prepare for a comfortable retirement. To the extremists of today Ike would be a a Marxist or something. And look at all the things we have lost as our country has been privatized from top to bottom with no end in sight. We can no longer believe that our children will have an even better life then we did. But, corporate profits and pay inequality are huge. In order to preserve such a vile system it is necessary to amp up the rhetoric and try and indoctrinate the people that the meanness and selfishness represented by a sociopath like Ayn Rand is somehow desirable. I consider it a disgrace and a far cry from what we grew up imagining what America could be.

They might not be that turned off by the extreme selfishness.

But the militant atheism and scorn towards anyone who is religious? That just might make them sit home come electiontime.

any way to act in an unprincipled manner. Like might makes right. Wealth is a reward for being superior. Etc.

good title for his book.

She was one crazy woman. I think she was a sociopath. She and RepubliCONS today have a fetish about the rich. In her case, I can understand it. Some woman find that power and wealth in a man is like an aphrodisiac. I think it was just simply a turn on for her. Then she wrote a book about her turn on and all these RepubliCONS found they felt the same way.
