(111,327 posts)A disaster like this one means your life is cut in two: the first part with a home and friends and every day proceeding much like the previous one with a feeling of continuity and safety; the second is afterward, grieving for people and places, not knowing if you'll ever get back to anything normal ever again.
The little ones might be more resilient but they feel it just as keenly as their elders do.
It would be kinder of the government to tell the evacuees that "this is it, you can't go back" and leave it at that instead of leaving them all hanging. If the radiation levels drop to the point they can go back in the future, it would come as a pleasant surprise. For now, it seems they need the stability of knowing where they'll be more than anything else. That came through loud and clear from the kids.

(20,776 posts)Especially the little girl who wants to grow up and be a Radiation specialist. To come up with medicines and sprays to help little kids. She has such a sweet face, and sweet way about her. I have no doubt she will grow up and be a brilliant scientist some day.
