Cyprus rules out deposit tax in bailout plan

AlJazeeraEnglish·Published on Mar 21, 2013

The European Central Bank says it will cut off emergency aid to Cyprus, if a bailout plan is not in place by March 25.

Cyprus' politicians have held another round of talks on a bailout "Plan B" - to stop the country going bankrupt.

The country is also still trying to do a deal with Russia - which may involve stakes in the island's gas fields.

Al Jazeera's Peter Sharp reports from Nicosia.

- Here's how it's done, Cyprus.

A poll published today showed an overwhelming majority of the citizens in Cyprus would rather leave the euro zone and develop stronger ties with Russia than accept an unprecedented levy on bank deposits.
