then the NT writers thought it up drawing upon some old testament texts. But i believe it was divinely inspired so I believe God made it.

Tertullian, the monk that Maher referred to, lived in the 2nd & 3rd centuries CE, or to be more precise, the years 165-220 CE.

And he's the first documented person to write about God as the Trinity as we know today, composed of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tertullian

And what about the Bible itself that talks about the Holy Ghost? It didn't come together right after Jesus was crucified. The New Testament didn't get written down until several decades later, about 100-150 CE, which is not too far from when Tertullian lived. Back then, early Christians were still arguing about whether Jesus was a prophet, just a cool dude, or the Son of God. That question wasn't really settled until the Nicene Council.

But the writings from the new testament that were written before this monk lived. The epistles of Paul were written in his lifetime and he spoke of the Holy Spirit. And to be honest they do not have an exact date of the writings of the new testament. Some evidence that the Gospels were written between 60-150 AD. My only problem with his new rules was he said that the monk was responible for the Holy Spirit and that is factually not true.

that bore close resemblance to the holy trinity.

The concept of a Godhead, or multiple aspects of God tied into a single unit, predates Christianity.

I don't want grand children to grow up in a world where adults believe in magical invisible little old men sitting up in the clouds blessing some and smiting others.

all religion should be discouraged , not respected. I mean seriously do you really thin it's ok to teach children this nonsense? To tell them that things for which there is no supporting evidence , things that we know to be untrue and things that can't possibly true are true?
