Papantonio: Trade Deal Gives Corporations Unbridled Power

The following interview is from the April 14th, 2013 episode of Ring of Fire on Free Speech TV (freespeech.org/ringoffire). Corporations are pushing the Obama Administration to approve a trade deal that THEY claim would help boost the economy. But what would really happen is that corporations would be given a free pass to ignore federal rules. Ring of Fire host Mike Papantonio talks about this disaster of a trade pact with attorney Joe Cotchett.

1. I think Obama should have run as a RepubliCON nominee for president

Though his speeches pretend to be liberal, his actions are clearly not.

He is behaving like a RepubliCON from Ronnie Rayguns day and age.

2. I haven't heard word one on any of the 'news' stations on TPP.

You know they love these kinds of horrid events like yesterday, so they can actually cover real news for a change, instead of the usual blather they go on about, all the while ignoring news like TPP.

The media is a huge part of the problem.

3. Thanks. The only people who know that this is going on are lawyers in stiff suits

and stuffy offices poring over volumes of court decisions. Yet these trade agreements are interfering in our personal lives and making our ideas about self-government and democracy obsolete.

This is not a dramatic story, but no story is more important than the way the corporations are undermining the authority of our legislatures, city councils and democracy.

It would be good to have an international anti-trade agreement organization.

The political benefits of broad regional cooperation are many, but we see in the EU what happens when a regional trade organization can interfere in local fiscal policy. It's a disaster. And that disaster is worse when the policies being interfered with are environmental or cultural.

Democracy is just forgotten. Democracy is a quaint custom from some distant past as far as the multi-nationals and their trade agreements are concerned.

Thanks for posting this.

8. These "treaties" will establish a World Court, owned by The Corporations,

...that will supersede ALL regulations and protections established by any mere country.

If the Global Oil Corporations want to drill off the Santa Barbara beaches,
and the World Trade Court (owned and staffed BY the Corporations) decide that it is OK,
THAT decision will supersede any regulations or protections established by the USA.
There is NO APPEAL.

President Obama is supporting this.
He IS "The Decider".

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their promises or excuses.
