Even on this forum, among supposedly "like minded people", the topic of what is going on in Iraq and the middle east gets very little traction.

It's very frustrating to me in many ways. I personally participated in the war in Iraq and it has affected me and troubled me greatly. I have a story and experiences that I want to share about what the war in Iraq is really about and how it impacts people on all sides and nobody wants to listen. The people I do open up to just give me the deer-in-headlights look. The war is brutal and we ran around in Iraq like a bunch of monsters and people don't want to hear the details or think that our nation could inflict a war on the middle east like the one we have applied to Iraq.

The war is sickening and appalling and and nobody wants to own up to having anything to do with it. People want to think that our Soldiers are "better than that", but we aren't. War brings out the worst in people and some very primal urges and impulses come to light in combat. Everyone and anyone who ever supported the war or didn't feel compelled to say anything against the war (i.e. the silent majority) owns a little bit of it and its atrocities

This guy has some really good points.

for your honest reply. IMHO Many people are tricked into serving or are just in need of a job since our leaders are more concerned serving corporate interests. Then there are others who want to control people and enjoy putting a heel to the throat. I'm sorry but just because a person puts on an uniform does make one a hero, I judge people by their actions not by what they wear. When we call them heroes we are all just serving as the propaganda branch of the Pentagon. Never mind the Religious right who are using the wars as the modern day "Crusade" as Bush put it years ago. Keep speaking up Victor, sooner or later hopefully people will listen. You in my eyes are a Hero!!!!

And do it often, whether they want to hear or not.
You are not old enough to remember but the military was not always like that...it started to change during Viet Nam, and the leadership decided to make it an immoral occupation instead of the moral one that was before it...well as moral as you can be in a war situation.

With the implementation of the all volunteer military it attracted the exact wrong type of people, and they got put in positions of leadership and adopted a the end justifies the means attitude...which may win battles but will lose the war.

only a couple of replies. I guess the people who post here love the resource wars. Or can't stand when someone like myself is willing to speak out on our occupation of foreign countries. I rather speak out and post to myself than be swept up in the Fascist tidal wave that has washed over this nation.
