Alison Lundergan Grimes, McConnell Senate Opponent, Releases First Campaign Video

Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) announced her 2014 senatorial campaign kick off Thursday, releasing her first campaign video.

Grimes announced on July 1 that she would be challenging Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in the upcoming election.

The following day, McConnell's campaign team released an auto-tuned campaign video, pitching Grimes as self-centered (repeating "I wanna thank me, me, me&quot and unwilling to compromise. The spoof, alluding to Grimes' 2011 campaign video, asks, "What rhymes with Alison Lundergan Grimes?"

Grimes' newly released video features footage from that 2011 campaign spot, which starred Grimes' grandmothers, Elsie and Thelma. Grimes calls the 2013 video and her latest campaign a tribute to Thelma, who passed away shortly after filming the ad.

She's great, gotta move to Kentucky so I can vote for her .... well maybe not. I think I'll just stay here in the Lone Star State and vote for Wendy Davis. Love seeing two strong females coming up in the Democratic party.

Hope everyone will be supportive of her here on DU. A win of McConnell's seat would go a longggggg way in reducing the embarrassment and shame from MY state electing the likes of Randy Paul, the man with serious tv camera and microphone fetishes.

there's snitch, glitch, witch, switch and ditch. And all of those would work nicely in a rhyme about Mitch.

I don't know how well she can handle the smear machine whose name is McConnell, but I've heard his numbers are not good in his home state.

I sure hope she can finally get that old bastard out of the office and make some progress in the Senate.

and uses those two grannies perfectly without a hint of exploitation.

If she can keep it up, she's got a great future ahead.

She clearly is appealing to center-right voters with the bit about government getting out of the way. That is very pro-business, and the kind of philosophy that leads to higher employment. She also appeals to the under-employed by touching on raising the minimum wage. A Kentucky Democrat oftentimes looks like a Michigan Republican, but we are a broad party.

Although they may be a bit conservative compared to the ideal Democrat for most of the people on this board, Kentucky Democrats do a good job, and I would like nothing more than to see Ms. Grimes beat that old frog McConnell in November.
