law. It's its own sovereign enforcement and judicial world. And it's maybe a good thing that we're not a nation of military law, for sure. Civilians often think that the Military Code of Justice is subject to the U.S. Constitution, or is somehow based on the laws and 'rights' of civil society, but it's not. Military law has its own long history; it and civil law are in different worlds.

(I know this from the experience of being stationed as an officer's wife on a military base during the Vietnam war. Unless that's changed.)

That said, I won't argue against the claim that we're not a nation of laws.
