Duirng the 2008 primary campaign, I was a lowly "phone monkey" volunteer but I got to meet him and have coffee with him. Even after the reporters had left and the cameras were gone, he talked to me about prescription medication and tried to help me out with the problems I was having buying them. I'm volunteering again, and though I won't get to see him again, I'll never forget his kindness and down-to-earth personality. I love him, too.

I really do. He's good at it. He's too timid. In 2008 the majority of American people didn't vote for someone holding themselves hostage to the status quo. They voted for an aggressive champion of the people, someone who bring change.

He defines himself in little ways by doing things like this...and he needs to do a lot more of it.

do so much of this that even Fox News can't ignore things like this.

Obama, maybe not perfect, (who is?), and his policies too timid, but he is a fine man, with a wonderful human side, as well as a great thinker and speaker. He needs to show more of his fine human side to the people of this nation, some of whom still believe he doesn't deserve to be Prez.

commonplace and forgetable.

Remember those weekly fireside chats that FDR used to have and had so much resonance?

They weren't weekly, the occurred a couple of times a year and that's why they are so well remembered.

For the last few decades President's have been giving a weekly address. Can you remember any single one of them?

...addreses, I do frequently watch those and yes they are forgettable for the most part (unless he takes time to throw in a particular human interest story) but there's sort of a self-propagating cycle. It goes like this: Most presidents do the weekly addresses like they're giving a speech to the rotary club. It's about the most mechanical you'll see a president speak during their time in office because they know that very few watch them. It's a bully pulpit that hasn't frequently been leveraged to the fullest extent.

It comes down to how you choose to use a thing. I could see a president taking more advantage of the weekly addresses and that benefiting policy promotion a good deal. I seem to recall during the healthcare debate near the beginning of his presidency, Obama actually did jam a bit more excitement into the weeklys.

Yes, I agree, to some extent, that Obama shouldn't do this every day, but heck he does lots of nice things every day, and they get no press at all.

The dinner for military vets a couple nights ago? The Auto Worker convention speech on Tuesday? Talks with the new Prime Minister of Denmark?

The visit to California a week ago, the visit to NH yesterday? Who knows about those?

I think someone needs to put a bomb under the P R division in the White House.

I watch West Wing Week every week, as a subsciber to the White House on Youtube, that's how I find out. Unless I turn on MSNBC, or Youtube, or come here to DU, I see NOTHING!!!

She is scheduled to appear on Chris Matthews' show 5-6 Eastern, often re-broadcast at 7 PM Eastern.

In case you want to take a look at a fine young American woman who is going places after the past two weeks, I'm sure.

My bet, after she finishes law school, she now has 3 job offers from: MSNBC, the Dem Party, and the Obama White House.

MSNBC and Chris love her. She's a remarkable woman, with great composure, and tact.

I loved every minute of it.

Chris was a bit sheepish with her, not wanting to affront her on the basic issues, so he bantered with Joan Walsh, his liberal feminist, wonderfully qualified ally from San Francisco. He used the word "slut" in front of Sandra, but she didn't even blush, she's a trooper.

I bet that woman has a career ahead of her in either MSNBC, or the DNC, or even as a new hire in 2013 in the White House. She has such poise, she will get job offers from all over when she gets her degree... I sure hope she stays public, she's a wonderful symbol to parade in front of the Republicans for the next 10 years.

I'm thinking, just a fantasy now, that the DNC or whatever figures out the Democratic National Convention in 2012, they offer her a $100,000 speaking fee, (to pay off her college loans and stuff) to speak at the convention in August or whenever it is. She shows up, does a five minute speech, and people give her a standing ovation. Bingo, she's hot for her career from that point on.

she's the new symbol of the Democratic Party's fight against these absurd Republicans' diatribe against the basic rights of women.

I would pay money to see her, she's got a career ahead of her. I hope her family is as proud of her ans I am.

She is my new hero, although there are plenty of others I love, too. Most of the others were not simply law school students, but she has a certain grace and humility, I love her, and I'm a gay guy.
