(10,622 posts)There are so few humans left with enough compassion to feel empathy for one such as her, I am happy she had the good fortune to meet some of those few before it was too late.
I don't have any money (quite literally) but I am looking for something to sell to help this group that is trying to make a difference, I think I will even do something I never have done before, panhandle - for once it is worth it to trade any dignity I have left for a few dollars. If any of you are doing better than I and actually have some change or a few dollars left beyond the cost of survival please consider doing something for them as well, however small, in the hopes it will add up.
My dog Pixel is an elderly Jack Russel Terrier that recently needed care in the several hundred dollar range to continue to live with a quality of life that would enable her to continue to be happy, and also capable of staying with me a few more years to keep me alive. That may sound exaggerated, be she is all that is left of my family and her loyalty and caring nature is very much responsible for my continuing to struggle to survive regardless of my recent inability to work, my impoverishment because of it, and my poor health. We were fortunate to find help with our local chapter of the humane society that used money from their "Angus" fund (meant to help older dogs in need of health care) to return her to excellent health! She is 13, but the vet said she is likely to live 'till 18 or 20 barring any unforeseen poisonings or unexpected diseases.
I have people that gave money to thank for her health. My entire discretionary cash for the month after dog food and non food stamp required necessities is $15 and I happily send it to the Angus fund each and every month. I am perfectly poised to understand the need for this rescue organization to ask for money and the very real help that the money collected a few dollars at a time could provide to dogs in need of rescue, health care, and ultimately (hopefully) adoption into homes where they can love and be loved back.
I hope they receive enough support to be able to continue to rescue those their hearts are moving them to help.
I apologize for the verbosity, I am just feeling many things now that my little girl is healthy once more after scaring me so badly with her recent illness.

(9,126 posts)I am so glad for you and your dog that you will be together for a long while and be able to take care of each other. I donate as much as I can to help animals in need as well as taking care of a feral cat colony and soon to be fostering dogs. I know how heartbreaking the high cost of good care can be. I will check out this organization as well. Every little bit helps. Thank you so much for all that you do.

It pains me to know how mistreated this grand breed is. I mean look how loving she is after what she's been through.

(64,416 posts)Very, very well done.
There are those here that would rather see this breed die out, and would otherwise see this as a foolish folly.
But then, they're too fucking stupid for words. So there's that.
