Summary from the Democracy Now Page:
Corporations could sue the US government for unlimited funds in a special court set up side of the government:
.. the TPP includes the very controversial investor-state system, which empowers individual corporations to directly sue governmentsnot in our courts, but in extrajudicial tribunals where three corporate attorneys act as "judges," and these guys rotate between being the judge and being the guys suing the government for the corporation...
1) The TPP is often referred to by critics as "NAFTA on steroids," and would establish a free trade zone that would stretch from Vietnam to Chile, encompassing 800 million people about a third of world trade and nearly 40 percent of the global economy...
2) While the text of the treaty has been largely negotiated behind closed doors and, until June, kept secret from Congress, more than 600 corporate advisers reportedly have access to the measure, including employees of Halliburton and Monsanto...
3)...that finally members of Congress, upon request for the particular chapter, can have a government administration official bring them a chapter. Their staff is thrown out of the room. They cant take detailed notes. Theyre not supposed to talk about what they saw...

Video goes on to say the corporations have challenge any member nation's food safety laws and that parts of the old Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) have been written in to TPP.

(14,255 posts)This piece of garbage seems to touch everything.
And Hillary had a big hand in crafting it.
Not anywhere near worth shattering a "glass ceiling" for, for me.
I would love to support and vote for a woman. But not just any woman. I don't think some people quite get that as yet.
And - kudos to the corporations and their shills! Well played!
(Hair not on fire. Just disgusted.)

(2,916 posts)here involvement will be political suicide. If....
I haven't had much use for Hilary since I heard about her connection to that weird quasi religious group the Fellowship that ran the C Street house. And her backing of federal loans (or loan guarantee) for nuclear power planet.

(1,648 posts)www.exposethetpp.org You also have the choice of calling, etc. from the site. This is very important to act upon, as if this TPP Treaty passes, no one but the crooked pols and Big Business will be happy. This is a Corporate Trojan Horse where "free trade" is only 5 chapters out of 29, so 24 are NOT about trade, but stuff like protecting GMOs, anti smoking health law gutting, etc. Please ACT NOW.

(2,574 posts)So convenient their timing to keep everybody "looking over here" when Obama administration is planning to ram through/fast track/stealth pass this Sweeping Corporate Wish List , NAFTA on Steriods, Game Over for American Democracy by the end of 2013.
It's the third leg of Obama's completely anti Democratic trifecta: pass Keystone Pipeline, cut soc sec (Chained CPI), and give global corps superiority over our federal and state laws. There's already been a pharmaceutical case where big Pharma has gone to corporate mediation since they couldn't win in our courts. Chances are they'll win, with TPP it's going to be a corporate cakewalk every time.
Yes, I too agree that Hillary's fingerprints are all over this. She is a Wall Street Dem, a Third Wayer, Pete Peterson Pal and not a New Deal Democrat. It's scandalous that this is nearly irrevocable Treaty is going to get through with little public exposure or examination and scant debate.
Once again the MSM has colluded in keeping America in the dark. I've never seen any mention of it on the nightly news.
What a horrible legacy Obama is going to leave behind and what a slash and burn of the Democratic Party Brand. Nowhere have I ever read that the Democratic Party stands for handing over American sovereignty to Global Corporations. The Trans Pacific Partnership is
not a treaty between countries, it's a global capitulation of sovereign countries and their laws to Corporate Dominance.
